Cato Division by Zero error...... anyone know anything?

Hey all - I'm running Cato for the 1871 version of my historical league. When creating the webpages and calculating the park factors for one of the teams (Troy Haymakers) I got a division by zero error.

Anyone seen this or have any ideas?

Yeah, you can't divide by zero. It's a mathematical law, because something, theoretically, cannot be split into zero pieces if it is already in one.

Hope that helps.

Fortunately, there are negative numbers, so I can give you a negative "on the board....."

Anybody have any real answers?

Open your park.csv in wordpad and see if you have any screwy looking park data that may be causing Cato to gag.

I actually tried that, but there's nothing that looks weird there.... is there a way to disable the park factors in 5.3? I'm using the default stadium for all teams, so I don't care about the park information - I just want to get the history stuff.

Alternate question: what fields is it looking at to get the park factors? Maybe there's some screwy number in there that I can fix.

Park factors are used to calculate WinShares in Cato 5.3. Cato looks at the info in the park.csv to get the park factors.

Perhaps, the fact that you have all the teams using the same park is causing the program to lock up? If you gave each team a park with it's own name and with default park factors, then generated a new park.csv, it might fix the Cato problem.

Good thinking. I'll give it a try.

Before I go back and do this...... has anyone else had any experience with Cato while using the default stadium? Either had it work or not work? I'd like to find out before doing a bunch of work......

You can also turn off using of park factors on the Win Shares tab.

Sometimes the simple solution is the obvious one.... thanks Ran!

Of course, now I've got a new error..... one that I suspect is caused by the 19th c. fielding percentages. I had the same problem initially with Cato for OOTP4 and referenced it in this thread:

Previous Troubles.....

Something was done that fixed it, and, as I said in that other thread, I had some problems with creating my own Win Shares utility because of negative claim points caused by the many errors in the 1800's. (I finally, FINALLY got it to work... just in time for Cato's utility to make my little one pretty much worthless.

So, anyway..... if anyone has any idea for a workaround, or has seen this before - please let me know. Until then, I guess I'll just go forward without using Cato's utility.

This has nothing to do with your post, really, but I want to know how people are starting historical leagues in 1871! Id LOVE to do that! But I can't import stats before 1900!

Thanks!
