OK guys, here are the things that I have planned for OOTP 6. Keep in mind that this can change anytime, but these are the top priorities for me at the moment:
1) Brand new in-game engine. I have learned so much in the past 5 years, mainly by watching a lot of baseball and your input. So, I feel it's the best way to completely recode the game engine (including play-by-play), to incorporate the things that are currently not very realistic and adding a lot more variety, and possibly even pitch-by-pitch. 2) New ratings system, with a scale of 1-10 for stealing, running, speed, and only one pitcher duration rating. Also, the pitching and batting ratings will be remodeled. I am not 100% sure yet how this will look like in the end. 3) Better player development, with bigger distinction between highschool players and college players. There will be those "great athletes, not much baseball skills yet" and "bed athletes, great baseball instincts" guys and everything in-between. Overall, there will be a lot more variety in player development and aging. 4) More realistic draft, with signing bonuses, players refusing to sign etc. 5) Better scouting system, with international scouting and baseball clinics in the Carribean. 6) AI taking current stats more into consideration in trades, roster management etc. 7) Head-to-head internet play 8) Better support for historical leagues because of the new game engine. 9) Brand new news system 10) Customizeable reports 11) Database output of the whole league and stats By the way, does anyone of you play CM 4? My dream would be a 2D game engine for OOTP, but this will probably not happen before OOTP 7. OK, just something I wanted to share with you

Very good ideas Markus!

Sounds cool Markus but I do have a question. With a brand new engine and changes in the way players are rated are we going to be able to import our current dynasties?

This sounds very good. Also, a big thumbs up for deciding to write a complete NEW in-game engine. A risky but courageous move considering the current in-game engine only has very few major flaws and some minor ones. Anyways, good luck...

but personally, I'm not sure that running ratings need to be on a scale of 1-10. I actually think the 1-5 system you use now (A-E I guess) is closer to realistic. I guess what I'm saying is, in real life baseball, I don't think their is 10 different tiers of running speeds. Same goes with fielding, btw.

btw, still would like to see you build on the CSV importing function implemented in OOTP5. It's helpful, but still not as "full-featured" as it can be. It still requires a great deal of "in game" cleanup work for roster creators.

Awesome. Almost everything we wanted. I have just one question, and I am not trying to correct grammar or anything, I am just not familar with the term, what is a "bed athlete?

"bed athlete"....you know. Babe Ruth, Joe Namath, Wilt Chamberlain.....bed athletes.
I hope that if pitch-by-pitch is implemented, it's an option. I quite enjoy not seeing every pitch. For me personally, pitch by pitch would become rather tedious. It's fun in actual baseball because you can see the movement of the ball, the batter's reactions and whatnot, but for a text game, it could be dull. My opinion.

I don't understand what it means. Bed athlete, means is a natural or has the abiltity to be great. I have never heard that turn before.

If all of those things make it into v6, I would consider it a must-purchase, especially if you change the word "possibly" to "definitely" in front of pitch-by-pitch. It kills me to not be able to call pitches and have greater instructions that I give my hitters.
From playing in an online league for just a few days, I do have a greater appreciation for OOTP as a multiplayer game. However, most of my playing will always be solo play, so anything that improves that would be a big plus. I also saw you mention in another discussion about making it easier to allow online players to do things such as release players. Definitely in favor of that, and maybe helping to automate other online league/commish functions? It seems that while OOTP does a TON of things to facilitate online leagues, it still requires a major committment from good commishes to work. Anything to make their jobs easier would be a plus. Good list! |

Markus,
A KEY element, and I mean that as strongly as possible, is making sure that imports from v5 into v6 are flawless. Otherwise, long standing online leagues may be very hesitant to move. But your plans do sound nice. |
