Expansion Draft Issue? Can't figure this out

So I started a fictional league with 18 teams, simmed one season, and then took over an expansion team. Expansion draft comes up, and the first three rounds are goalie rounds. Round 4 is defense, and there are no defenseman to draft? There are only 12 players showing, 3 goalies, 4 LW's, 3 Centers, and 2 RW's? Can't do anything at this point so may have to start over. Any explanation here? Thanks!

Similar in mine. Had one left with two picks. You have to forfeit the pick (or two in your case). Not sure if that's intended however, but it should let you get on to the next rounds.

Assuming it has something to do with not enough teams selected when initially creating the league?

Don't know, but I don't believe so. Mine was just a new game. I think it's a variable based on who is left unprotected honestly. Teams are going to leave certain players and there just might be the perfect amount of D or F that they do.
