Women playing OOTP

I heard from CNN today that 30% of fantasy sports players are women. This makes me wonder if there is anyone on this forum who is female or knows one that plays. I haven't seen a mention of it.

I know of one that's been around here for a long while, even used to commish a long standing league for a bit.

OOTP is not what CNN is referring to as "fantasy sports". They are talking about fantasy football leagues and places like DraftKings.com. My guess is that less than 1% of OOTP's customers are women.

I think the OP realizes that he was just wondering aloud how many of the active posters were womenon this forum or a male who knew a female who played

I know of one who is pretty successful in a few online leagues. She may be the same one canadiancreed mentioned.

I can readily think of one, but also think it quite possible she's the same to whom cc and msu are referring.

Is there a reason we're not just mentioning a forum name that I'm missing? She never made any attempt to hide her gender...

But anyway, I think we're all talking of a certain RL A's fan.

Edit to prevent a trola: As I think on it, I recall another. Way back in the days of v4, when I first discovered the game and was in my first online league, there was a husband and wife tandem that GMed a couple of the teams. Though I'm certain someone will make the requisite "do you have a team for my, ahem, wife (yeah, that's the ticket)?" joke.

Dola,

Also, I'd really hesitate quite a bit before using a number as low as "less than 1%." It just strikes me as a bit of stereotyping. I'm not certain there is a pastime or hobby or what have you in existence that would see the numbers that incredibly low.

also, the fact that the people contributing in these forums are a small minority of all players of the game. so, you don't want to base anything off of that.

gender has nothing to do with success in a game. no upper body stength is required

it's funny that it's brought up like as if it was unusual. there are plenty of women that play video games.

... which is awesome for this particular male player here, who has the physical strength of an oak leaf.

But where does OOTP require you to match three?

How is that stereotyping? It is an opinion. There is a correct number out there. My opinion is that number is less than 1%. So far in this thread we have reports of 1 female... maybe.

We are talking about OOTP, not Candy Crush.

LOL lots of women around my age (early 30s) play video games (not named Candy Crush) but they'd all mock me for playing OOTP as they wouldn't understand the joy of drafting some 14th rounder and seeing him turn into an MVP.

My wife loves games like Diablo but calls me a nerd when I go on about my OOTP world, right who's the nerd there?

Anyone remember Dodgergirl?

I think she was here for a while back around 6/6.5, not sure on that though.

it's not stereotyping at all. I suspect a lot of people have a twisted understanding of what stereotyping actually is.

The 1% claim is an educated guess. Of the hundreds, if not thousands, of posters here, I have yet to see any women players. IMO, 1% might actually be a bit high.

There's also the possibility i suppose that females just don't come out and say they're female. Even though I've never said I'm a guy, everyone assumes it. I guess we won't really know unless guys like The Wolf or Questdog comeout and say that they're female.

I know my wife thumbs her nose at the game, most sports in general, even though her career is in sports television. She mocks the little manager picture with the ball cap on and a suit. She says that is a fashion no no. I am sure there are wife that play out there, I see a number of women keep score at Rays games, not as many as I use to see. Sometimes I think it is the game like nature of the OOTP that might turn off women.

Are they keeping score or drawing new "outfits" for the players to wear?

Now THAT'S a sterotype

I will say this much, my wife has no issue with the GM of the player in a suit with team colored ties, it is the baseball cap that drivers her crazy! Is there a way to take it off?

I don't think his prior post was stereotyping. But then he posted this and is now officially stereotyping.

Nope, not at all. I was using Candy Crush as an example of a game that was completely different from OOTPB, which is a text-based game with a baseball theme as opposed to an action-based "video game". Your assumption of what I meant was a stereotype.

I don't think OOTP will appeal to the casual sports fan or the causal computer game fan. My wife is both. She enjoyed playing Madden against me and she even played through Oblivion & Skyrim on her own but she didn't last a day on OOTP. I think most women who are casual sports fans are fans of the visual component of the sport. The spectacle of it. OOTP appeals to those who are fans of the details of it. I'll bet if you visit any major league game and ask everyone there what WAR, FIP, or wOPS is 90% won't know. If you ask as many OOTP players I'd bet 90% will know exactly what they are and how they are calculated. My wife can name most of the players on the Marlins if she saw a picture but I'll bet she can't tell you Marcel Ozuna's slugging percentage with RISP. I could and I play OOTP almost every day.
