Sample size, sample size, sample size, and confirmation bias. I feel you brother, I've been there. It's always hard to 1) make piece with a known players underperformance and 2) deal with the baggage of MLB players once the game starts.

Hang in there, it'll all straighten out.....or, the game may have randomly selected Bummy for early retirement....It's all yet to be written in your game my friend.

Good Luck!

BABIP .344

FIP .320

So, these right here pretty much explain his performance so far. A FIP of 3.20 broadly means that, if his fielding hadn't been so crappy, he would have a 3.20 ERA - quite acceptable for Bumgarner. On top of that, the .344 BABIP is high, which indicates that he has been unlucky too, a preponderance of opponents just "hitting it where they ain't." These two things lead me to believe he is pitching reasonably well, just has been a bit snakebit. If you have the opportunity to do so, definitely look at how you can improve your defense, like someone else said, especially up the middle.

Those stats above are a microcosm of his season so far, VERY unrealistic with his ratings. He's had one shutout against a Braves team that isn't real good at this point.

I believe he's had ONE game that he went deep pitch/inning-wise, and has given up at least 4 runs or more every start.

That's NOT Madison Bumgarner what-so-ever.
Poop happens. Do you expect every player to perform as they have IRL 2015? If you do you are playing the wrong game. Brandon McCarthy is a 2 time 20 game winner, should i yell and scream that he is too good? Hee sop Choi has over 350 HR. Granted my league isn't based on one season. Wait and i am sure MadBum will right the ship over the long term.

It's very premature for you to have said he "sucks in this game" in just over 1/3 of a season, especially without looking at this peripheral stats. A big key I've noticed to having good pitching is improving defense up the middle. Find high range guys at the shortstop, centerfield and catcher positions (and to a lesser extend 2B) and your ERA vs. FIP should be much closer, if not actually getting to a FIP higher than your ERA
That was the key, by happenstance, Pagan (not great defensively due to age?) and Blanco (average defensive ratings) are both on the DL, called up Darren Ford who was hitting over .300 at Sacramento, but more importantly has 19 Range and 17 speed and that, coupled with Posey coming off the DL (Susac is still progressing, but was not an ideal option while Posey was out) and suddenly my whole staff is more effective. I'm happy with the Crawford/Panik combo up the middle.

Thanks for the suggestion!

That said, thanks to all who responded, I've already seen how deep and immersive this game is, and just learned a little more about that!

Truly a GREAT experience, perhaps why i've logged over 150 hours in the two weeks since I purchased it!

I leave mine running pretty much all the time even if I'm not playing it. It says I have 350 hours of playing time and I've only had it a month, I'm hoping that's the case here too. 150 hours in 2 weeks would be madness!

I use to auto 125 years when I would leave it on to test the historical-ness of the game.
