Has this ever happened to you?
I'm currently in the middle of simming the 1972 Phillies. I just logged into the game to play, and I noticed that one of my outfielders, Roger Freed, has a strained ACL and is out for 7 weeks. Normally this wouldn't be all that strange, except he didn't get hurt in the last game. He played the whole game and was fine...only to apparently wake up the next morning with a strained ACL. For all I knew, this was a bar fight gone wrong, but his injury isn't even listed on the League Injury News page.
Anybody have any ideas why this mystery injury happened? Thanks.. Jeff |

There are a few threads on the "mystery injury", which a search of this forum will reveal (you can search "mystery injury"). Briefly, there has not yet been a definitive reason given why players randomly show up with severe injuries that were not caused during a played game or an e-mail generated to notify of off-field injury.

I once had a guy who woke up in a bathtub full of ice and missing a kidney!

Gastric...
'72 Phillies...yeah, I'm a masochist. It's the first year with Carlton and Schmidt is a 22 year old rookie in A ball. I'm playing for the future...if I don't slit my wrists first. As for the mystery injury, what do you guys think? Should I go back and erase the injury or let it ride out as some sort of freak thing? Thanks... Jeff |

I think this is just the game's way of simulating things like the 15 games Wade Boggs missed in (I think) 1988 when he broke a toe putting on his cowboy boots, or the time David Wells missed with the gout. I'd keep the injury in there; freak occurences happen.
