I went from 1871 to 1908 with no issue - Patch came out around 1902.

I had it happen once in one season, twice the next season, did not happen the next season, now in 1911 - first 3 times I start my league opening day, it happens the second series with a different team each time....

No idea what happens for you here... I tested it, and it works just fine.

The only thing I can imagine is this: The AI shuffles the rotation and then when the game comes around the SP (who did pitch 2 days ago) is seen as able to pitch (happens with 3-man rotations and high stamina) and hence pitches with only 1 day rest. This is not a bug! If you do not want this, you need to take control of all teams or toy around with the league stamina settings.

Nope, that's not how it works. The rotation is not touched prior to a game at all...

To me, STRICT order is just that, STRICT order

I want a true 3-man rotation, i.e. Friday night starter, Saturday starter and Sunday starter (College Baseball). I don't want my Friday starter starting Saturday or Sunday.

Why have the 2 options of Strict or Strict but rested if they both work the same?

David, the key phrase in Markus's response is "The AI shuffles the rotation", which is exactly what SteveP and I are talking about. Apparently this "rotation shuffling" occurs even with "strict order" selected. But why? and when? and what are the parameters that govern the AI shuffling the rotation? Answers to those questions would go a long way toward illuminating this issue/non-issue (I am neutral). What exactly does it mean to say: "the AI shuffles the rotation"?

Well I am pretty sure the AI will not go with a bona-fide "strict rotation only" when the next guy in the rotation is too tired (exhausted?) to start. This can happen if you change the order of pitchers, or insert a tired reliever into the rotation.

I take it to mean that the AI scans all players on some sort of internal schedule. When changes in player ratings occur as a result of development/aging the next AI scan may result in a "shuffle" of the rotation, based on these changes.

I can see both sides to this. As a player I don't want micro adjustments made to my team but for teams controlled by the AI I don't want it to keep a declining SP as the No 1 starter and have the team lose games it would otherwise win. Same thing with a pitcher returning from injury who might have been 1 or 2 but has been affected and is now 3 or lower.

I'm sure this happens in the lineups too. Maybe not as noticeable especially vs a 3-man rotation.

My issue has been fixed with latest patch. I had strict order on but occasionally (only 2-3 times a season) a starter would start back-to-back games or start a game, rest one day, and start again.

My strict is strict again.

I have a pitching staff with 7 quality starters and a 5-man rotation set to strict order. The AI manager changes the rotation roughly twice a month during the season (since it has 7 guys to choose from). If after a change to the rotation, the strict order calls for the guy in the #2 slot to pitch, the AI manager will start that guy regardless of his condition or how recently he pitched. I have never seen it work any other way in any version of the game I have played. If I don't catch it in time (that is, after starting a game with an exhausted pitcher), I have to crash out of OOTP and reboot it so I can fix the problem.

However, Markus believes this must be a bug in my game files, and that this shouldn't happen to anyone else. I hope he's right. So I just keep an eye out for when the AI makes a change to my rotation.
