I heard David Ortíz has lost it? How can he hit a home run? Is your pitching staff that washed up?

Sorry. Mom always told me not to rub salt into wounds.

GM Dave Dombrowski: Detroit Tigers not sellers yet

This should be interesting.

Our pitching is in complete shambles right now. All of those guys pitching last night are AAA players. I mainly listen to the games on the radio so I can only assume Neftali Feliz and Ian Krol are attempting to pitch underhand these days. As for Shane Greene, if he doesn't end up sticking with the Major League club as a pitcher, he definitely should have a long career tossing batting practice.

Buck Farmer to start.... what a joke. All that means is he will try his best not to give up 7 runs the first time through the lineup, because we all know he won't make it through twice.

I still have a smug know-it-all feeling every time I hear Buck Farmer mentioned and think back to the night I watched him pitch here in CT. The Tigers should be paying me to scout!

Buck Farmer 5th rd selection out of GA Tech this year:
3.0 IP 1 hit, 2 K - Fastball topped out at 92 but he only exceeded 88 twice. Decent outing but most of the outs were sharply hit, his fastball (which he threw a lot) wasn't fooling anyone. If he wasn't on a pitch count, I think Lowell would have opened him up like a sardine can within a few innings. Young kid, so don't write him off but I was not impressed.

So do y'all think Dave Dombrowski will be given a new contract, or do you think this is his last season as the Tigers GM? Another side of this, if the Tigers sell and start a rebuild, will he even want to stick around? Thoughts?

I'm honestly not sure but you would think Detroit would have tried to extend him already if they wanted him to stay. I really hope they keep him around though.
I don't think the Tigers will "rebuild" in the traditional sense but instead if they decide to flip Price and Cespedes, they can demand MLB ready talent. They will have the extra money to dip into the free agency pool and will be able to compete next year. I think if they sell this year, it will be to re-tool the team towards a more youthful look.

The piece I just read said that the last time he was extended it didn't happen till sometime in August, so .......

Not sure if my nephew is just yanking my chain, but he said he heard the Dodgers might be willing to trade Puig for Price. That would be an interesting trade.

I wouldn't want him. His talent is immense but his attitude is terrible. I can see Puig being a guy who always puts up great numbers in his career but ends up playing for like 7-8 teams.

I wouldn't want him either. Mainly because we don't need fielders, we need pitchers.

Jayson Stark thinks Detroit is going to buy:

But with Miguel Cabrera due back in the next three weeks, the Tigers are now actively shopping to add pitching. Other teams say they've asked about a large number of starters and setup relievers. So this could be a busy week.
Maybe all of us can get to play in the Tigers system next year. It'll certainly be that empty. Sharpen the spikes and freshen up your pine tar boys.

Tigers getting no-hit through five. Verlander is turning in what may end up being another fine outing squandered.

We should trade them Alex Avila just to get back at them.

Guys, no bemoaning bad luck today!

It is a *bit* sad to see Archer, such a wonderful young pitcher, get sunk so mercilessly by his own team.

The Verlander of old showed up. 4 hits, 10 Ks, got stronger as the game went on. Soria did what closers are paid to do.

I am in a state of utter but blissful shock.

Huh. I thought the Tigers and Indians were racing to the cellar. Neither team did their part today.

(well, I guess technically, we already won, but getting there and staying there are two different things)

So, the Tigers lose and they are buyers.....They win and now CBS and ESPN have articles saying the Tigers have told teams they will listen to offers.
