Just want to play with a mate!

Hi Guys,

I’ve been a long time admirer of the games. Myself and friend have finally taken the plunge.

We really want to play an online game between the both of us.

First off, is this possible? Or do we need a huge multiplayer league with no ai?

Second question. Are their any online tutorials that can educate me on how the online system works? It looks quite specialist. Although I’m not a technical person I can follow the instructions provided, but so far I’ve not been able to find anything!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Matt

Hi Matt,

So, good news and bad news. The good news is, you CAN play together without having to get a bunch of other people involved.

The bad news is, to do so you do need to handle some of the technical aspects of hosting an online league. Essentially, one of you will need to be the "commissioner." That person runs the league, while the other person just does their GM stuff.

To do this, you need somewhere to host your league files. You might want to hop over to the Online Leagues subforum. I think there are some people who offer free hosting for online leagues, but it's not something I know much about.

Additionally, it's important to note that OOTP doesn't support head-to-head playing of individual games. So while you are going up against your mate from a GM perspective, you won't actually be able to manage individual games against him.

Good luck!

Thank you very much for the information.

I'll keep on reading more and hopefully I can get something going soon.

Cheers

You should be able to do drop box or another file sharing service. You just need a way to move files from the commissioners computer to the other one.

Thanks for the drop box tip!

Where do you find the information on drop box that needs to be pasted into the game?

What about team viewer. I use it to play my leagues remotely.
