Good luck! Looking at rjl's dynasty, it looks like the '86 Red Sox have their work cut out for them. At least you're not Milwaukee!

I think these 86 Brewers are trying to copy the 88 or 89 Orioles. Didn't they lose a bunch in a row to start the season?

April 22nd, 1986 Game 14 Tigers vs. Red Sox

Detroit gets on the board first with 2 in the top of the 2nd as Mike Laga continues to kill the Red Sox. Detroit added another run in the top of the 4th on an RBI groundout by who else Mike Laga. Sox got one back in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI single by Jim Rice. Sadly, that's all the runs the Red Sox would get as Jack Morris pitched 8 strong innings and the Tiger take game 2 of the series 3-1.

April 23rd, 1986 Game 15 Tigers vs. Red Sox

Bruce Hurst got the start for the Red Sox today and struggled with his control early. Hurst walked 3 in the first inning and gave up 4 runs. Sox got one back in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI ground out by Rice. Detroit pushed across another run in the top of the 4th to go up 5-1. Ed Romero blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the 5th to bring the Sox back within 3. Boston would cut the lead to 2 in the 6th but Steve Crawford gave up a run in the top of the 7th to put the Tigers up 6-3 and that would be it for scoring in this game as Detroit comes to Boston and takes 2 out of 3.

April 25th, 1986 Game 16 Red Sox vs. Royals

The Red Sox begin a weekend series in KC as they turn to Oil Can Boyd to get them back on track. Boyd allowed 3 runs over 6 innings but the Sox offense couldn't muster an attack on Liebrandt and the Sox fall to the Royals 6-1.

April 26th,1986 Game 17 Red Sox vs. Royals

The Sox jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after half an inning but Al Nipper gives up a 2 run bomb to George Brett to tie it up after 1. KC gets two more in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead. Sox got one back in the 4th to make it 4-3. In the top of the 5th, Tony Armas took Bret Saberhagen deep with a two run blast to put the Sox ahead. It didn't last long as Frank White hits a solo homer in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. A clutch 2 out hit by Dwight Evans in the top of the 8th puts Boston up 6-5. Sambito is able to close the door in the 9th and the Sox end their 3 game losing streak!

The last game of the series gets washed out and the Sox will now travel home to take on the Seattle Mariners. Here is a look around the league and our team page after week 3.

The Mets finally lost a game (4) this week and the Brewcrew finally win one!

George Brett and Glenn Davis were the players of the week and Wade Boggs is currently riding a 17 game hitting streak.

April 29th, 1986 Game 18 Mariners vs. Red Sox

Seattle strikes first getting a run off Clemens in the first but their lead doesn't last long as Baylor swats a 2 run bomb in the bottom of the 2nd. Boston would add another in the 2nd before Ken Phelps blasts a 3 run homer in the top of the 3rd putting Seattle up 4-3. Clemens just didn't have it today and after giving up 3 more in the top of the 4th his day is done. Sellers pitched ok in relief trying to keep the Sox within striking distance and despite a rally the Sox fall 10-8.

April 30th, 1986 Game 19 Mariners vs. Red Sox

Game remained scoreless until the last of the 4th when Jim Rice sent a ball flying over the monster giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. Seattle ties the game in the top of the 6th as Calderon drives in Bradley. In the bottom of the 8th, Ed Romero delivers a 2 out 2 run single giving the Red Sox a 3-1 lead and Schiraldi is able to retire the Mariners 1-2-3 in the 9th and the Sox win!

The first month of the season is over and the Red Sox have a lot of work to do. Their bullpen needs to see some improvement and some of their bats need to wake up.

NL Hitter Hubie Brooks 431 5 15

Al Pitcher Tom Candiotti 3-1 1.76

May 1st, 1986 Game 20 Mariners vs. Red Sox

Oil Can Boyd pitched well allowing 2 runs over 8 innings and striking out 10 but Seattle's Bill Swift 1 hit the Red Sox through 7.1 and the Mariners take 2 out of 3 with a 2-1 victory. Sox had a chance to tie it in the bottom of the 9th but Wade Boggs was thrown out trying to score on a base hit by Rice.

May 2nd, 1986 Game 21 A's vs. Red Sox

Jose Canseco gets the A's on the board early with a 3 run blast in the top of the 1st and Dave Kingmen follows with a solo shot and just like that the A's take a 4-0 lead. The Red Sox get one back in the bottom of the inning when Buckner sends a pitch into the bullpen. A's add another in the top of the 4th to take a 5-1 lead. Oakland would put up 3 more before Nipper got the hook. He just didn't have his A game today. Evans hit a 2 run homer in the bottom of the 5th to make it an 8-4 game. Things never got any better as the Red Sox fall to the A's 14-7. Worse than the loss Wade Boggs' 20 game hit streak has finally come to an end.

May 4th, 1986 Game 23 A's vs. Red Sox

Roger Clemens got the start today as the Red Sox try to salvage the final game of the 3 game series. Clemens wasn't overly sharp as he allowed a homerun to light hitting shortstop Alfredo Griffin and also wild pitched in around finishing with 3 runs allowed over 7 innings. Meanwhile, The Red Sox made Rick Langford look like Cy Young over the first 5 innings as he shut them down on 1 hit. The Sox finally made a game of it in the 6th when Bill Buckner hit a 2 run homer to pull the Sox within 1. That would be as close as they come as Oakland completes the sweep with a 3-2 victory.

It was a tough week for the Sox as they now stand 8-15 and 10 1/2 games out. Need a good week here to try and pick up a few games.

Players of the Week
AL Brook Jacoby 500 2 12
NL Steve Sax 484 0 5

Other Notes:
Brewers still only have 1 win. (Will have to look up and see what the record is for games played before winning 2 games)
Carney Lansford has a 25 game hitting streak.

The Red Sox came out swinging today pounding out 16 hits and scoring 10 runs as they pound the Mariners 10-2. These back to back blowouts have allowed the Red Sox to rest some of their starters in hopes of keeping them fresh as we continue our West Coast Trip.

May 8th, 1986 Game 27 Red Sox vs. Mariners

The Red Sox seemed to have things going their way jumping out to a 7-3 lead. That was until, Seattle erupted for 6 runs all with 2 out in the bottom of the fifth to go up 9-7. The Sox didn't give up and were ahead 11-10 going into the bottom of the 8th. Unfortunately, Mike Trujillo had a meltdown and Seattle scored 7 times to go up 17-11 and that's how the game ends.
