I'm on the fence
After reading through some of the discussions regarding OOTP16, I'm not sure if I'm going to upgrade. I'm positive Marcus and Company did a smash up job as always, I just have a few reservations and I was hoping some of you guys could share your experiences.
I'm mainly concerned with the new owner goals feature. I've seen some screenshots and some of the goals make sense but others could potentially be detrimental to the team/game play. I run a smaller market team and it takes me some time to build it up using prospects and smart trades. I also have a tiny budget to consider. I've seen goals such as: Sign an All-Star 3B. What if my team already has an All-Star pitcher and CF and I can't afford another All-Star without destroying the core of my roster? Will I get fired over something like this? Are there work-arounds? I've also noticed some comments about team chemistry. If my team is winning games is it really necessary to trade a star player just because I'm receiving negative emails about him? I've always used the player ratings like Work Ethic and Loyalty when looking for players, but sometimes I also draft players with high ability even though maybe they're greedy or not great team leaders. I've heard major league managers discount the theory about team chemistry and I'm wondering how this new feature effects that game. I love the simulation aspect of this game. The owner goals, player story-lines, etc. are just extras to me, and I like that currently, (OOTP15), I can consider these things without having to focus too much attention on them. Anyone care to weigh in? Thanks in advance. |

I dont always listen to the owner. I am more concerned about winning. NOBODY complains about winning. My owner always yells at me for not signing somebody or not trading up. YOU do what is best for YOUR club PERIOD.

Owner Goals can be turned off, if you do not like them (they are not for me, but others love them). And teams with bad chemistry can still win, a la the '78 Yankees.
The chemistry is nothing new in OOTP16, but it has been reworked to be more visible. I have not noticed the impact of good or bad chemistry to be more than it ever has been. |

I only complete the owner goals that I think will help the team. He gets angry about it some years, but I've been fortunate enough to win the World Series a few times and he agrees that winning is more important than his goals.

Owner goals are my favorite addition to OOTP16. My immersion is at record levels.

Not sure what the OP decided to do, but I am glad I picked up this version while it was on sale. Played v13 a lot, very little of v14 and skipped v15. Huge jump in enjoyment, immersion, etc... with v16.

Fences hurt. Get off it.

I had a lot of reservations of OOTP16. I wasn't sure that I would like the owner goals, and I was concerned that the team chemistry feature would interfere with my ability to manage the team as I wished. In fact, those two features are my favorite additions to this version and I would never think of turning them off. I also really enjoy the GM-only mode. Definitely buy this version!
