He's not going anywhere. His contract was designed specifically for him to opt out and he'll sign another two year deal with an opt-out after next season as well. Because of the new TV contract the cap is set to explode starting in 2016 and the max will dramatically increase along with it. If he signs a max deal prior to that he loses tens of millions of dollars.

Some quick hits

I like the Bucks, should be a fun team to watch if they can figure out a style. I worry about them on defense. Parker and Monroe, I am not sure how that will work.
And they still need an actual point guard. I don't think MCW has a future in the NBA as a starting player. He is simply not a modern PG.

If the Lakers take Hibbert from the Pacers, they will be doing Indiana a huge favor. Indiana has done everything short of banning Hibbert from the team in an effort to tell him he is not wanted.
But I do worry about the Pacers locker room, apparently David West burned every bridge he had in his exit interview.

I still don't like the Mavericks. Jordan is heavily PG dependent and the Mavericks don't have one. They lost Ellis who was their best offensive player. I don't see Jordan continuing where he was last season and I think he is deluded about his role on a franchise.

The Hawks appear to be going on a different direction. Milsap, Horford and Splitter are a big team. I worry about Splitters health.
I am not sure how I feel about the team, they won't win 60 again but they could still be a very good team. Hardaway is a huge negative on defense, one of the worst players in the league by advanced metrics. But if he can hit shots then that will all that is asked of him.
I still hate that they did not add a draft pick. Baffling
They fleeced the Nets into a pick swap and then turn that into...Hardaway?
They have some contracts they can get rid of in Brand, Mack and Jenkings will be in Europe next year.

Can the NBA League Pass replace the Kings games with just a camera in their locker room and practices? Can this be a thing?

I don't like 4 years of Tyson Chandler. Don't break up the Morris twins.
I don't like what they have done this summer.
You are paying a lot of money to a back court who between them has had one good season.
I think by now they have shown what they are, middling guards.

Why are teams helping out the 76ers? They completely fleeced the Kings with a salary dump trade.
I would not be half surprised if the NBA rescinded this trade. Who the hell is actually running the Kings?

The Blazers will take a step back but I like some of their moves. I really like Mason Plumlee and can't understand why he never got many minutes in Brooklyn.
I also like Ed Davis.

The Spurs look like favorites now. Especially since playoff seeding is going to be fixed. Spurs, Cavs and Warriors look to be in a class by themselves in terms of rosters construction and depth.

Overall I am surprised by how many players are taking discounts in order to play on good teams. It seems like almost every signing besides a handful like Jordan and Monroe has been before market value.

I, too, am surprised that *anyone* offered Rondo a contract. But...as long as he's not coming to Cleveland!

I'm also surprised that Phoenix broke up the Morris twins.

The Cavaliers are trying to dump Brendan Haywood's contract in a trade, and I'm a little concerned that we have not been able to do so yet. We need some bench help. I really think our main weakness last season was our bench. I got tired of seeing us get a 15 point lead, only to have the bench give it all back in just a few minutes.

Monta Ellis...not a bad addition, but I don't really see him being a game-changer. Still, dumping Hibbert on the Lakers is probably a good move at this point, but I hope this isn't the end of the Pacers' moves.

Do you think they'll be able to make it in 2k16 that when Jordan and the Clippers are playing in Dallas, the crowd boos whenever he touches the ball? Do you think the game will include a "not to be traded to or signed by Dallas" clause for him?

He made a mistake by not going to Dallas. He'd make more money (after taxes) he'd be at home (near it) and he'd be "the guy." Maybe he doesn't want to be "the guy" after all, but I can't see why not.

Here's what I don't understand...

Couldn't he have said to Cuban, "Look, I want to go back to the Clippers, and they want me back. Is there a way to work something out with them if I sign with you?"

If Cuban agreed, then JD could then have honored his word, and Cuban could have traded him to the Clippers for SOMETHING. Maybe it wouldn't have helped the Mavs this year, but...

And then, if Cuban wasn't OK with that, THEN he doesn't sign the contract.

Why does he have to clear his wishes with the owner? Just because it's sports? He hadn't actually signed a contract and we have a free labor market*. He doesn't owe Mark Cuban anything. If this was some office worker telling another company he would come work them and then changing his mind no one cares. I don't see why this is any different.

One of the most bizarre situations I have seen in professional sports.

I have seen college level athletes verbally commit to a school and then change their minds. But I cannot remember a high level professional athlete changing his mind.

I don't really care much about either team. I want players to do what makes them happy. I just don't like the way that this was done.
Jordan refused all calls from Dallas on Wednesday. He never informed the team that he was considering not joining them.

They missed out of other FA centers because they did not realize they would not have cap room.

And the Twitter war that broke out was one of the more bizarre things too.
And the Clippers 'barricading' themselves inside Jordans house until midnight.
Almost like he can't be trusted to not change his mind again.

This entire story is fascinating. I can see the league changing how business is done.
Cutting out the moratorium, using estimated revenue for the new cap and letting players actually ink deals on July 1st.

Perhaps lost in all this is that the new cap is now $70 million.
It was estimated to be $69 million. That may not sound all that big of a difference but it may of changes how the Spurs, Thunder and Hawks did their business.

It is astonishing that a multi billion dollar leagues operates for 10 days not knowing what their exact budget will be.
