Baseball Down Under - A History
A Nation Born...
In 1901, Australia federated as a new nation, born out of the penal colony days, it was ready to forge a new history. Intertwined with this new unification of the nation was the nationalisation of a growing sport in Australia - baseball. Brought to the country in the Gold Rush of the 1850s by American gold miners, it had grown to be one of the most popular sports of the time. Baseball grew to be played by all members of society, in stark contrast to rugby, cricket and Australian rules football which all targeted different sections of society. The Sport and the Nation... 1878 saw the first game in the country between Surry Baseball Club and the New South Wales Cricket Association, this grew into a touring team. This team, backed by Mr AJ Roberts, went on a tour of America and England in 1897. Although they struggled in America, the competition proved interest from pre-federation Australia in the game of Baseball. Nationalise the Sport With no national sports league at federation, and the successful baseball tour completed four years prior, Mr AJ Roberts gathered together with members of Australia's parliament, business leaders and the major kingpins of Australian Baseball, in the weeks after federation to discuss his plans. With a University and Schoolboys league in operation on a regional level, Mr Roberts proposed a league to be called the Australian Baseball Federation. All men signed on the dotted line to create a six team league to operate in all states bar Western Australia due to travel concerns. Each team would play 40 games. So the league was born and preparation began... Writers Note: Hello friends, this is my first dynasty, and I am hoping you all enjoy it. I do currently have some temporary team logos and no league logo. If you can help out that would be great, other than that, hope you enjoy! |

The Plan
Baseball and Australia is already established with our youth. Our universities are already competing in the Australian University Challenge while many of our high schools are fielding teams who compete on regional and state levels. The establishment of this league is an extension of what this game has already become for our young nation.
Mr Roberts described the lack of a Western Australia team as an issue of travel and that who knows what may change as the league grows. But for now - our sites turn to watching what rosters the teams will assemble and under what name they will do so. The full list of names is yet to be decided by the six teams, but the Melbourne and Adelaide ballclubs will operate under the names Melbourne Union and Adelaide Souths. Two strong names for clubs seeking success in this new league. ![]() The season is but a month away and rosters are almost done, soon these teams shall face off in the inaugural Australian Baseball Federation season! Writers Note: Thank you so much to Fullarmor for helping with these logos. Much appreciated. Anyone who can help with the rest that would be fantastic |

Opening Day!
Baseball fans all across Australia are readying for the first professional sports league for a brand new country. The Australian Baseball Federation opens it's gates to fans for the first time. Teams have had a month to put together rosters of the many amateur players out there. As we prepare to launch into the season, teams like Sydney have stacked their roster well with a combination of amateur baseballers and many of our nations cricketers. They look to hav the best bowling crew on paper and rounding it out with some batsmen that will be tough outs. Teams like Newcastle seem to have struggled to compete with their interstate rival - picking up very few of the big name players, instead relying on depth in numbers. Players such as Benjamin Zglinicki and Nathan Mant will lead Melbourne United with the bat while bowlers Daniel Lutz and Ian Murphy will make the switch from cricket to this new league to lead Adelaide. So begins baseball in Australia, with the first game in our great nations history but hours away, we wait in anticipation.
Writers Note: Okay so a few things, first of all thank you again to Fullarmor for the logos! They are great! See the attachments for all the remaining logos. Also I will post at the end of a season rather than during and will review what happened to make the posts quick.
