OOTP and Windows 10
This may be a stupid question, but OOTP 16 should work fine with Windows 10 when it releases next month, right? I'mm assuming it will.

I did have OOTP and Windows 10 on the same laptop at one point, but I always booted it through Windows 8 so I can't confirm it will work perfectly.

Not a stupid question at all, considering history. However, MS has been doing a better job in recent years of providing for backward capability in their new versions of Windows.

I am doing some application compatibility testing on Windows 10 at work. I just installed OOTP 16 (caveat: the latest beta build) on Windows 10 Enterprise Insider Preview Evaluation Copy build 10074. The installation was successful. The game loaded successfully. I ran a historical season (1976) successfully. I used Facegen successfully and created a baseball card successfully. So, take this with a very large grain of salt...a beta build running on a beta OS, with no test plan other than clicking on a few buttons. But it worked like a charm!

I've been running OOTP on various builds of Windows 10 for a while. I have not seen any compatibility issues.

A little secret, other than marketing, Windows 10 is still just a iteration of NT 6 that first appeared with Windows Vista. I really don't expect any issues with the new version of Windows.
Going forward it could get a bit more dicey. Microsoft isn't going to do major revisions after Windows 10 - or so they say. Future updates will be incremental without a name change. Not so different than Apples OS X. |
