LOL, last September lefty Daniel Norris made his first MLB appearance for the Jays and struck out David Ortiz. I'm not sure that Phil Coke gives me a sense of calm this weekend. I hope we get "New Coke" this time.

Krol will be in the 'pen while Kyle Ryan will start. Ryan has been better than Greene, so yes. Whether Krol works well in the 'pen remains to be seen.

And as usual, the Indians are an instant winning streak start for the Tigers. Man, we just cannot beat you guys. I didn't get to watch yesterday unfortunately. I might make more of an effort to watch Verlander's return today.

Speaking of which, where's all the Verlander talk?!? You guys are all over Shane Greene and Phil Coke though.

Which Verlander will show up is the question that I have. We've actually done okay without him, so if he comes in and gives us the Verlander that started to appear in spring training, a very good Verlander, then it'll be a plus. But if he comes in and is the version he's been the past couple of years then he'll sort of be on par with Lobstein and Ryan, who have done decent but not good. So it shouldn't change things a bunch.

I've actually enjoyed not having to worry about the "Which Verlander will show up?" question. Although it's been replaced with "Which Sanchez will show up?" and "Which Greene will show up?".

Not bad for his return start. Obviously on a pitch count and the bullpen unfortunately coughed it up - generally pleased though.

VMart off the DL, Verlander on the mound: time to turn this train around.

It's still a long season ahead of us. Plenty of time to figure things out. And they're only 5.5 back.

Wow, have to tip your cap to Max. A 1 hitter followed by a no hitter. Wonder if he throws a perfect game next.

So what happened with him leaving the Tigers? He signed a huge contract with the Nats, so did the Tigers just not want to match it? Or was he gong to go, regardless?

Illitch said he offered 140 million and max refused it and was told that was Tigers final offer and that was that.

However my one question would be is should we get rid of damaged goods Verlander while we can. Truth be told I don't know if the no trade clause is in his overpaid contract. I do know he officially has 9.012 days in the bigs so he can be traded on that part. But the contract amount and wording of contract. I would love to see them dump him off and even pay a portion of his contract and part with a minor leaguer or 2

I wonder how much of his leaving was his agent, Scott Boras, and how much was Max. Max, like many other players, said, "I want to remain with my current team," but when the rubber met the road his actions spoke much louder than his words.

Should a top notch player go out and try to get the best contract that he can? Sure. But if you say "I want to remain with Detroit," but then you don't, you're "I want to remain with Detroit," is really not true. If he really wanted to stay with Detroit then he would've taken their very good offer. But who pushed Max to not remain in Detroit, Max or Boras or both?

Yeah. That's the thing. You don't hire Scott Boras if your primary goal is to avoid free agency.

It's tough to say ... As a fan I would've loved for Scherzer to stay in Detroit but you get offered more money elsewhere it's tough to say no, especially if the better offer comes from a legitimate title contender. I think maybe the experience with Verlander and Sanchez may have Detroit hesitant on pulling the trigger on another big contract for a starting pitcher. I would love to keep Price but I don't see us matching or besting the best offer he will receive from the market. I hate to say it but with an aging team and the farm system rated at the bottom of the majors its hard to see a bright future for our Tigers.

Bats are moving and Price is on the hill. Three in a row?

While I agree that it would be nice to still have Max in Detroit right now, the Nationals will be ruing the day they inked that deal before too long unless he carries them to a World Series title this year.

Detroit already has one fabulously paid soon-to-be back-end-of-the-rotation guy; having two would leave the franchise in financial shackles for five years or more.
