Wasn't sure where to put this, please move if in wrong forum.
I had the idea of making sort of a Masters league where I would use the MLB as a feeder and set the minimum age to say 35, 40 or something similar. I don't want to have crazy MLB contracts or really any if I can avoid it, the idea is more of a "fun" league where old and or former players would join because they want to keep playing the game, not make bazillions of dollars. I really don't even want free agents, but understand if they are required for the system to work as far as teams signing players....I can deal with having them if needed basically. :-) There will be no trading, as again, it's more of a "fun" league, not profit so to speak. No draft either, as all players should be able to play for whoever they want. Anyway, can anyone give me some insight on how to set this up properly? I tried and keep getting players that are eligible for the league, but want ungodly contracts, even though I have financials turned off...I also see no way to sign these players to my league. Just really at a lose here and looking for some help. Take care, |

So ok, I made a test league, turned off the Financial System and took a job with one of the teams. This allowed me to sign a player outright, even though they had an asking salary of over 5 mil.
I may need to run an inaugural draft to fill teams with starting players though. This is all trial and lots of error...again, any help would be appreciated. Take care, |

Yep, I was wrong, seems turning off financials disables the ability to sign players.
I'm so confused now...would be great if the online manual was written better and explained more. Take care, |

I wouldn't think this would need to be setup as a feeder league. For what it sounds like you want to do, I'd suggest using an indy league as a template.
Then set very low salaries and overall financials, don't turn off the financials. You can also turn off free agency (set a reserve clause league up, basically), and set the age limits to whatever you'd like, though it sounds as if you've done that already.. |

I've got it setup for using the MLB as the feeder, that seems to be working just fine.
I've also set all settings for salary to $0 and the players are still asking for extreme MLB type contracts. Heck, I've tried settings all financial settings to $0, not just salaries, but revenue sharing and what not, still nothing changes with players demands. Really though, if the AI doesn't consider player demands when they go to sign a free agent (with financials set to $0), the demands are no big deal then (I am testing this now). There is an issue with number of years a player will sign for though, as there are no salaries, free agents seem to default to a 1 year deal, with no way of adding more years. Of course I have no clue what I am doing with all of this and the lack of explanation in the manual makes it all trial and error. Take care, |
