That 1993 Upper Deck set is a beauty. Glad the dynasty is back. Really enjoy it.

1993-94 Offseason News and Notes
I have no idea why it’s showing Florida with the 1st pick, and SF with the 3rd, but that’s incorrect. Despite what it says, SF picked Alex Rodriguez 1st overall. David Ortiz was actually selected by the Blue Jays, and Nomar went to Florida. Weird, but Im just gonna go with it…. All the players went where they were supposed to go when i watched the draft. ![]() ![]() Reggie Jackson and Earl Williams will enter the Hall of Fame together, which seems kind of fitting, since they spent 16 years as teammates in Atlanta. Reggie Jackson received 97.2% of votes, while Williams got 91.2. There’s a 3rd member who got in, that will be inducted next season. I limit the HOF to two a year. ![]() MLB has realigned for the 1994 season. Each league is now divided into 3 division. The east, west and the newly formed central divisions. Each division winner will now make the playoffs along with a wild card from each league. The wildcard will be the team with the best record that did not win a divison. I hate this rule acting as the commish in 1994. I love the uniformity of the game, and I guess the old school in me wants to keep things the same, but, I didn’t like divisions when the league switched years ago…. Here is the new divisional setup. ![]() Continuing to take advantage of the games meet the team screen, here is the history of each NL east team. I really like these screens, but forgot to post a division last season. ![]() Here are the top free agents and where they signed ![]() The Yankees are starting to flex those money muscles! I had to include George Bell in there. I haven't covered him to much, but the guy is getting close to being a Hall of Famer, he's had a great career so far. Here are the trades made during the offseason ![]() ![]() |

I'm a bit of a Corey Koskie fan since he hails from Manitoba, but that seems a little high to be picked 9th.
George, if Toronto went with David Ortiz, could you tell me who actually picked Koskie? Edit: I see that was Toronto's second pick in the 1st round. That would be so cool if a Canadian kid was selected by the Blue Jays!

Been reading through this the last couple days, now up to 1962 and OUCH!! My Tigers just can't catch a pennant break. Mays, Mantle and Mathews go 1, 2, 3 in HR's with 48, 46 and 45 and 1, 2, and 3 in RBI's with 136, 134 and 131 as well as O'Dell and Nuxhall on the ERA and wins list respectively and yet again fall short.
![]() That one was one of the more painful misses thus far. Back to reading! This is very well done, Bravo! |

I am surprised to see that Earl Williams made the Hall of Fame considering that most in baseball did not like Earl or wanted Earl on their team.
Here is an excerpt from SABR write-up - According to manager Earl Weaver, Williams would not work with catching coach Jimmy Schaffer, reportedly telling the coach "I don't like this sh!t." Williams also said "those goddamn bullpen catchers [should] warm up" the starters, prompting Andy Etchebarren to call Williams an "asshole." Teammates expressed their displeasure at Williams' lackadaisical play and wondered aloud why Weaver was not enforcing discipline, although the skipper yanked Earl after four innings of the first exhibition game for calling signals with his hand on his knees. See his SABR write-up here - Earl Williams | SABR |

The NL Central looks like it will be a thrill ride all season. Whoever wins that division should be the World Series favorite.

1994 MLB Regular Season
Here are baseball's top ten prospects for the 1994 season ![]() ![]() Joey Cora Shark attack! The Indians played at home, against Seattle on the 7th, with a 7:05 start. The game lasted 3 hours and 4 minutes. On the 8th, the team had a 3:05 EST game in KC. I would imagine they flew to KC soon after finishing the game with Seattle. So, when the hell did Cora get to a Shark infested body of water. Did the plane make a stop on the beaches of Florida!? Coverup written all over this one!! I want to talk about Montreal’s 31 year old Bo Jackson. Bo did not play a game for the Raiders in this reality. Infact, he didn’t win the Heisman because he only played baseball at Auburn. Bo Jackson concentrated on baseball 100% and the results are special. His worst statistical season was his rookie year, when he hit 36 home runs. He hit just .237 that year, but hard work and talent elevated the average and Bo hit .311 last season. He’s never been on the DL, never knocked in fewer then 100 runs, and never stolen less then 14 bases. This season, he hits 9 homers, and 26 RBI’s in April. A monster month, which is ordinary for this super man. Bo Jackson is on his way to the Hall of Fame, and is easily, the greatest Expo ever!! ![]() ![]() Everything has started to finally click for the Yankees. A 31-16 record through May. They have been in the middle of the pack for so long, its good to see them challenging again. Kirby Puckett is dominating hitters with a .358 average. Larry Walker has been a great addition, hitting .314, with a team leading 9 home runs. The pitching has allowed the least amount of runs in baseball, and that includes Ken Hill, whose 7.29 ERA over 42 innings isn’t even hurting them. Rob Nen and Billy Wagner achor the bullpen. The Tigers are right there with the Yankees, but it looks like it will be a battle! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Leading the Yankees resurgence?? 29 year old Dwight Gooden just won his 200th game. He’s currently in the mist of his worst professional season to date, with a 4-3 record, and a 3.17 ERA. Terrible eh?! For comparisons sake, Jiro Noguchi, baseballs all time wins leader, had 239 through his age 29 season. ![]() The good Doctor Baseballs leading vote getter for the 1994 all-star game is St. Louis first baseman Jim Thome. Thome received 2.93 million votes, beating out AL catcher Mike Piazza, who got 2.82 million. ![]() Here are the trades made during the 1994 season. Sammy Sosa is dealt, but he really resembles an early real life Sammy Sosa, an afterthought at this point. ![]() On August 1st, I must apologize to any Yankee’s fans out there. I’m sorry for getting your hopes up. They have completely tanked, and now find themselves in 4th place. They are 6 games out of the Wildcard race, and are trending downwards. 25-30 over the last 2 months isn’t good enough with a team like the Tigers in the division. Barry Bonds tears his labrum and is out for 10 months. The former best player in baseball, who was on pace to set records, has been ravaged by injuries. He’s played just one full season in his nine year career, and hasn’t hit more than 15 home runs since 1991. ![]() Detroit has dominated the AL, and leads the east by 13 games heading into September. Texas has a 27 game lead on Seattle in the worst division in baseball. The Twins hold a 4 game lead on Chicago, and Baltimore leads the Yankees by 6 games for the first ever wildcard spot. In the NL, the Cardinals 92 wins have them 11 up on the Cubbies. The Phillies and Padres both have double digit leads in their divisions. The wild card race looks anit-climatic with Chicago ahead by 7. Seems like a big gap between the top teams and everyone else. Mark McGwire's 58th home run of the season is his 400th career home run. He also hit it on his 31st birthday. So, McGwire has an outside shot at Killebrew. McGwire has had seasons of 57, 64, 51 63, and now 58 home runs, but, he’s also had a 7 home run season, and last year, hit 27 in 160 games. He can’t afford those totals if he is going to make a record run. ![]() With 2 games remaining, the Twins and White Sox have the same record atop the AL West. Each of them lead the Orioles by 2 games for the Wildcard, so it’s likely that both teams will make the playoffs. Dwight Gooden loses his 8th game of the year to the Royals 5-4. Big chance wasted by Chicago as the Twins also lost to Texas, 3-2. Baltimore beats the Indians 3-2, to cut their deficit to 1 game going into the final day of the season. In a daytime affair, Matt Lawton hits a 3 run shot in the 8th inning to give Minnesota the 3-1 win, guaranteeing themselves a playoff spot. The White Sox play the craziest game of all-time against Texas. Down 6-3 in the top of the 8th, Chicago scores 8 times!!! Somehow, in the bottom of the ninth, Texas scores 5 times to tie it!!!! Chicago takes the lead again in the 10th, but Rick Wilkins ties the game in the bottom of the 10th, and with the bases loaded, Curtis King throws ball four to Derrick White, and watches Terry Pendelton walk in from third, touch home and end their division crown hopes. Baltimore ends up losing to Cleveland though, so the White Sox will get a chance at redemption with the wild card spot. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Joey Cora attacked a shark? Well, that's new.
Bo Jackson! Larry Walker and Kirby Puckett! The fact that the two latter ones didn't make it to the ASG is dumb. Either way, Yanks are making steps forward. That's good. Jiro Noguchi? Can you remind me who he is? Wow, that name is incredibly unfamiliar. AL West for worst division in history and NL Central for best division in history. The last game is hands down the craziest too. |
