Random Debut

I think what I want is a modern day league (doesn't have to be 2015, but I want full minors and an accurate and modern-day financial structure) where I have a inaugural draft of random debut players. I don't know the best way to do it: do I load a 2015 league and then delete the player pool and load a random debut pool? I want full minors, don't want fictional or ghost players there, but I don't want a 34 yr old Glenn Hubbard in AA or a 28 yr old Brett Butler in Low A (a 22 Glenn Hubbard and a 19 yr old Brett Butler would be fine). Will the inaugural draft handle this with more young players than old? Will future first year player drafts?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You want the older guys, otherwise your league won't age properly i.e. nobody will retire unless the injury fairy comes along and taps them on the shoulder (or the ulnar collateral ligament or what have you).

Also: paging Mr. David Watts paging Mr. David Watts aka Random Debut Man!

Actually, I think you're probably better suited to help here. What he's wanting to do would be more suited to using Spritze's DB.

That's very kind of you, but I have no clue how I would set it up in 2015.

Me either. I think I would do 2014 or 13. The full minors would stump me as well.

Thanks folks...leave it to me to want to do something difficult. Just to make sure I understand, you are saying it would be easier to do Historic with 2013?

I think so. Random Debut is a historical game feature. You can still use it with the fictional game, but you have to start fictional. Like stated earlier, I have no idea how to use the quickstart/full minors setup with random debut. I think your main issue remains your not wanting to see older guys in the minors. Players import at their MLB debut age, so avoiding older guys in the minors and not using Ghost players, might be tough. Spritze has a alternate database that imports players at I want to say 18. This might be an option you could try.

try this (I posted this in another similar thread):

-create your fictional league (setup league parameters/teams/divisions/etc).

-in the "players" section, change the settings for "generate international amateur free agents" and "generate international established free agents" and "generate free agents from independent leagues" to None. (edit: also change "international scouting discoveries" to None, or your scouting dept will find random fictional players from time to time). One more optional edit also in the players section: set the min/max age range for fictional players high, so maybe 32 min / 34 max. Again, if you don't mind one/two/three seasons or so with those inaugural fictional players, they'll all be old enough that they won't rack up mega stats in the record books and retire after 3-5 years.

-in the "options" section, check off the box for "automatically import real historical rookies"

-optional: also in the "options" section, check off "use random rookies from all eras" (I personally like using this on fictional "historical player" setups so I don't know who will show up in the draft, and I might get Ty Cobb in the same draft with Nolan Ryan).

the inaugural draft pool will be fictional players. Just my preference here again, but I don't mind a single season of fictional players in the stats. Once that first year is done, you can either retire those players and have the game import enough real historical rookies to fill all the rosters again. (after that, adjust the number of rounds/players imported to fewer rounds, so you don''t keep pulling in a ton of new rookies each year); or just let those fictional players live out their careers. If you set the min/max age for fictional players like I mentioned above, they'll retire in a few years anyway.

-----

as for the minor leagues, just my two cents, but if you don't want ghost players, you might want to start off with just the reserve roster (assuming you are looking to to a long term career mode with this league); and let those reserve rosters fill up a bit. Once teams have enough players in reserve to field a full minor club, then expand and add a AAA level (and later when the AAA fills up with enough extras, expand the AA level; etc).

If you want full minors & RD you will run out of players rather quickly even using Spritze DB. Bringing in that many players to fill you minors you also lose out on the scrubs that played MLB they will all be stuck in the low minors. Some players that had solid MLB careers but play weird in OOTP will never see the majors or if they do it will be briefly. i suggest not going beyond AAA.

Thanks everyone for the help. I have gotten it to work with reserve roster (unlimited number of players) instead of minors (might add AAA later). League starting in 2013 with random debut. Inaugural draft exactly what I wanted it to be...deliciously evil. 1st round 3b: 24 yr old Richie Hebner, 26 yr old Sal Bando, 22 yr old John McGraw or 28 yr old Joey Bats?

Just an example. I don't really need an answer to that (unless you really feel strongly).
