Lenovo, Acer and Asus?

Might be forced to purchase a new computer soon. Woke up this morning, fire up the computer for some pre go to work OOTP and get some goofy unable to access user profile nonsense. I found some instructions on how to fix this, but if it doesn't work, I will be forced to purchase a new one. Going to be a long day at work.

My question is in regards to the three brands listed above. Are they trustworthy? I'm a desktop guy. The computer I might be replacing is a HP. Or should I take the big jump and move to MAC. All I do is use it for is the internet and of course, OOTP. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

Acer and Samsung are the two electronics brands that have never let me down in any way in my life. Your mileage may vary, but the Acer computer I had before this one was a joy to have.

What you have to try and avoid are cheaper models in these brands are often coming with special 8.1 operating systems called bing installed, using bing search engine as the main internet search. the big problem with that is it won't let you do a clean windows 8.1 (or whatever system) install, which means they can come with a bunch of bloatware that you have to delete yourself manually.

If you an get a non bing machine, and know a tech guy who can do a clean windows install of the system then it is probably fine.
I might lean to acer, even though I have a lenovo now (just was too good a deal I got on it) but the clean install to me is the key

i bought a Lenovo a few weeks ago, as the little IT shop near my house run by friends had a good deal. But there is a problem with Windows 8 - not just with Lenovo, but in general, where the mouse stops working on laptops inexplicably, and depending on the brand you hit the FN key and an F function key to get it working again. Except the F6 key with FN on Lenovo, which according to a few websites should work does not and I have had to shut the computer off and turn it back on quite often, which is not good. I would try one of the others.

Is Gateway an option? Gateway has never let me down, ever.

got a Lenovo ideapad last year and have had zero problems with it (went with a laptop vs a desktop, just so I can sit where I want rather than be limited to the home office room). No issues running any programs/games/etc.

Is Windows 8 really the nightmare I've heard people describe, or is it just something to get used to?

it really isnt that bad. i dont even really utilize it the way they show it with the tiles. you can just minimize that and have a regular desktop.

Same here, I use the desktop only on an Acer laptop and have yet to experience any issues.

Although I am getting pinged quite often to update to Windows 10.

I bought an Asus earlier this year, and it works good.

If you buy a Lenovo, be careful. There was a story earlier this year about some Lenovos being sold with pre-installed adware.

I'm scared to purchase a laptop. I'm a hermit and it's nothing for me to play OOTP for 6+ hours on the weekends. On weeknights I probably average 2-4. Would love to have the option to take OOTP with me, especially when we go to visit my wifes, friends and family, but I'm scared I will burn up a laptop in no time.

I've had the same ASUS laptop for 3 years, and I've had pretty much no problems with it, unlike my previous Toshiba and Dell laptops (Dell did have great customer service, though). It's a multimedia model so I can also occasionally use it for some older 3D games and it works quite well.

All PCs are basically designed to be in use for much longer than six hours. The only concern you may have with a laptop vs.desktop is heat building up inside the case. Just don't block the vents by leaving it on a couch or (ironically) your lap and you'll never have a major problem.

As for the brands you mention, they all have the same parts inside, more or less. Price is the major concern.

I had some of the same reservations and actually just purchased an Asus laptop. Hate Windows 8.1 with a passion (already but went in hating it) and cant wait for the free update to Windows 10 on 7/29.

I was in an airport and on a plane over the weekend playing OOTP on the 2 in 1.

10 hours of battery life! My desktop is 7 years old and my previous laptop was even older (still running Windows Vista) so it was almost necessary to update just in terms of the age of my electronics.

Id recommend Asus. Though there is some bloat, not nearly as much as HP.

Toshiba is an underrated brand. Had several over the years and they have all worked flawlessly.

I like my Lenovo but it has developed an unsolvable Windows update problem that Lenovo refuses to help me with. Because of that I will never buy or recommend Lenovo products ever.

Avoid HP like the plague.

Get a cooling tray. Cheap way to keep laptops off your lap.

same here... once it boots up to that tile screen, I just click the desktop tile and use the standard layout.

If you are worried about long use. What I do is be sure the fan at the back of the laptop is clear. I'd don't keep it flat on a table.
I use a textbook and turn it 45 degrees like a bb diamond and put the laptop on it. Fan is clear. 6 hours straight is no problem at all then.

OOTP will run well on a laptop that's under $300.

Why are you replacing your laptop if you have a drive/file failure. Your hard drive may still be under warranty.
