Playoff rosters
I am in a league - that is still utilizing OOTP 15.
My team made the playoffs as a Wild Card team; and two players that I felt should have been on the playoff roster were not. Is there a known bug in OOTP 15 regarding Playoff Rosters? Players in question - one made the opening day lineup, original 25 man roster. He was injured the majority of the year, but when he was eligible to come off of the DL he was activated - so he should be eligible for the playoffs. 2nd player - was called up in June, has been shuffled back and forth between AAA and the ML roster. So he obviously has been promoted before August, so likewise he should be eligible for post season - unless I am missing some here. Thanks! |

They need to be on the MLB roster or ML DL (or on rehab) as of August 31st. The 2nd guy if he was up and down all year likely was on the farm team on August 31st, and that's why he's not eligible. Not sure on the first guy, but his status on that date is the main criteria.

The second guy you are correct on - he was on the active ML roster in April, May, June, June, July, September, and October - but was in AAA in August - which seems far fetched; as he spent the majority of the season on the parent club.
The first guy - was hurt in May, placed on the 60 day disabled list; came off the DL in late August and was immediately placed on the active roster; he remained on the roster the remainder of the season and should be eligible for the post season. |

To be eligible for the postseason active roster, a player must have either been on that team's active roster or disabled list as of midnight ET on August 31 of that year and not placed on the 60 day disabled list after August 1.The one exception is for replacing players on the disabled list. Any injured player who is eligible for postseason play may be replaced by any player that was on an active or disabled list for either that team or any of its affiliated minor league teams at midnight August 31. Players who do not participate in one game in the Majors before September 1 with the team's organization of the regular season will be declared ineligible for the team's 25-man active roster of the postseason and must be placed on either the restricted list or the secondary squad.

Well, I guess the question then becomes - does OOTP follow MLB rules for this situation?
Because, that is what I thought - imagine I wasn't pleased when both of these players didn't make the playoff rosters. I thought they were good if they were on the 40 man roster and had ML service. |

As far as I'm aware, we do things correctly except in the case of a player getting hurt during a series. I think there was a change a few years ago to prevent teams from having automatic bonus players due to guys on the 60-man DL, but it's really hard to read the rules and figure out exactly what they all mean. |

Here's what the relevant passage says (emphasis added): Quote:
This rule change did come up during beta, either for this year's release or last year's, I forget which. Last edited by Le Grande Orange; 06-02-2015 at 03:50 PM. |

That's why I'm not a lawyer. Sigh, more switches needed for rule changes. I guess this rule came in before the 2014 season, right?

Confused with new playoff roster rules.
The new rules seem like just about anyone can be on the playoff rosters. Take the Pirates for example. The Pirates have the following on their wild card roster: Elias Diaz - Optioned to minors 3/20/15, on 40 man roster - Called up on 9/1/15 Pedro Florimon - Outrighted to minors, off 40 man roster on 8/25/15 - Called up and added to 40 man roster on 9/2/15 Keon Broxton - Minor League contract, in minors - Called up and added to roster 40 man roster on 9/21/15 Travis Snider - Signed Minor League deal 8/20/15 - Called up and added to 40 man roster on 9/1/15 I realize that Elias Diaz can be on the roster, because he was on optional assignment before 8/31/15. Keon Broxton , is probably replacing Jung Ho Kang who went on the DL on 9/21/15, and is injured. Broxton was in the organization before 8/31/15. Pedro Florimon, must also be replacing an injured player. He was in the organization, but not on the 40 man on 8/31/15. He could be replacing Deolis Guerra, who was hurt and on the DL as of 8/7/15, Corey Hart, who was hurt and on the DL since 6/24/15, or Andrew Lambo, who was hurt and on the DL since 5/4/15. Travis snider, must also be on the roster for a injured player Pedro Florimon is not. It seems to me might as well allow anyone in the organization, on 8/31, to be on the roster, because you just have to find enough injured players, and I would say most teams have numerous injured players at the end of the season. |

the OP says the online league is using OOTP 15. The option to use 'all players on 40-man roster' was added in OOTP 16 so in v15 the 2nd player wouldn't be eligible. In v16, assuming you set it to use the new rule, he would be eligible.

even mlb.com can have suspect information. the pdf with the official rules should be used instead.
i've seen mistakes on the web pages of mlb.com, and summarized info that didn't fully outlne the actual rules. e.g. i believe it was rules on Saves. it leaves something out or isn't fully up-to-date, while their offical rules pdf is 100% accurate. |
