Poor Cubs

Even in alternate MLB reality, the Cubs can't escape failure. In 1983 in the ninth season of a historical league, the Cubs led the second-place Cardinals by 11 games at the All-Star break (see the second-to-last column in the picture). The Cards took the lead with about two weeks to play and clinched on the second-to-last day of the season by beating the Cubs in St. Louis.

44-37 both pre- and post-AS break. That is some serious consistency from St. Louis.

That's glorious. And, for the Cubs, par for the course. Which is where they usually head to after the regular season.

Screw the Cubs. Poor me. I'm 27 years into a Phillies franchise. I've won 3 WS. I've lost an infuriating 7 WS, including 2 game 7's. I'm the Buffalo Bills of the MLB. I've got one more season with two of my current core players before they will want ungodly amounts of money or I've need to retool.

I've got to imagine the Cubs will have a good chance in the next decade with the players they have now.

Postscript: Cards were in 1-11 vs. NL West champ Dodgers in regular season. So naturally, they beat the Dodgers 3-1 in the NLCS. Eerily similar to real-life 1983. Just substitute Phillies for Cards in those two sentences and you get same result.

But these Cardinals then swept the Twins in the World Series, unlike the real-life Phils, who lost to the Orioles in five games in the World series.

Ugh you wanna talk about poor Cubs? In my league I'm in the year 2053... The Cubs are STILL without a World Series victory. I took them over in 2041. In 2043 and 2044 I made the World Series. In 2043 I had the best overall pitching staff in Baseball. I lost the World Series in 7 games to the Royals after being up in the Series 3-2. I lost the game 6-0 with the best pitcher in the league on the mound for me. The following year I not only had the best pitching staff I also had the best lineup after adding the AL MVP to the club. We lost the World Series in 7 games once again this time to Baltimore after once again being up in the Series 3-2. Then the next 3 years with still top 5 pitching staffs, and top 10 lineups we were unable to make the playoffs missing the playoffs by 1 game each year. We didn't make the playoffs again until 2052 where we lost in the first round. So YES poor Cubs...
