Fictional Set-up
Okay, I'm gonna take jaysdailydose philosophy and start a fictional league along side my MLB league. I'm looking for a little help in setting it up. I'll tell you what I envision, and then you vets of Fictional set-ups tell me what to do. Then I'll tweak what you tell me to do as I play.
1) Will be 12 teams, 2 divisions to start. Centered around the Great Lakes Area 2) I would like Financials that give and average player around $40,000/year, ERA around 2.5 -- What year do I need to set this too achieve? 3) I want it to be stats only (except for "Other Ratings") with feeder leagues supplying the draft -- can some one give me the quick of setting that up 4) How best should I get started after creation. Leave the Fictional players the game generates or release/delete and create my own 5) I want this to be the last time I start a league "over" for a long time, how do I get totally engrossed into it? Thanks for guidance in advance... I'm gonna start building it while I watch for responses (PLEASE non of the "It's your game, play it your way" I want to play a fictional stats only league someone elses way first cause I don't really know what way I want to play it yet ![]()

I can answer #5 based on my own experience - close to never. I always find myself wanting to create a new league since I get so much enjoyment out of the creation process. But the leagues that I have had that have lasted the longest have been ones that have had some personal attachment. That would be either by setting up the league with cities/teams that have meaning to me, like my high school and rival teams, colleges and rival teams, etc. I've also had one league go for quite awhile when I created some players based on real people including me, my sons, high school friends, etc.

I'm goint to make the league where all the teams come from the 8 state Great Lakes Region....I'm thinking of making the players exclusive to this area as well (no players from California, Florida, etc.). If I chose to do this does anyone know how?
Does anyone think that's a dumb idea?

Holy Crap This Is Fun!!!
I'm now about 3 hours 2 - 3 hours into this and I haven't actually done anything yet, just planning! I got about half way through picking out potential uniforms (I really want jerseys for Home and Away, so theres quite a bit of comparing to see if there are similar ones for the same nickname that can go H and A) and now I've decided to switch to try and figure out the cities these teams will be in. I'm gonna go through each of the 8 states, narrow down to a small (20-25k pop.) mid (30 - 40 pop.) and large (50 - 70 pop.) market citie for each one. Then I'll have to choose from those 24 names, which cities will get the first 12 teams of the league. would like a mix of small/mid/large markets. I see what you guys mean by, the fun is in the creation!

Easiest way to make sure you have the right nicknames for jerseys is to use the "Nicknames Project" in the mods forum.
Either that or use the Cities project or the States project. Uniforms is the easy part, honestly.

1957 the average player salary is $39,800. Quote:
For example, a 5 round, 30 team fictional needs 150 players. 150/6=25 You would need 25 feeder teams and I would probably do 30 to have extra guys that go undrafted. My own personal feels off real life data is that you should do 2/3 college and 1/3 high school but YMMV. Quote:

By all means, use the AI Evaluation numbers we suggest (I personally advocate the 10/60/20/10 set, The Wolf and others prefer an all-stats look at 0/67/22/11) but don't feel like you have to play stats-only for you to get the effects of that setting. You don't.

The lowest NL ERA outside of 1871-1919 is in 1968 at 2.99.
As I said earlier, 2.5 is extremely low run environment. I think you may need some thought on this setting unless you are purposely trying to play early-days style ball.

1969 in Baseball -- Wikipedia I had a ton of fun with a fictional league built around a 1969 environment.

1947 and so forth is another time when not a whole lot of hitters socked home runs. Kiner and Williams, for sure. Then you edge into the fifties and great some truly great players, Aaron, Mays,... I enjoy slimming this era through the eighties.

What does checking the box for "Automatically adjust league totals modifiers" do?

For example, if you play 1969 out with its default settings, it will update your environment to 1970 when you get to 1970.

I started with 1999 MLB and simmed to 2003 when the EBL came in. EBL started with 1973 financials & modifiers, now 1993. In the early days the EBL did not sign good former MLB players, I had 42 yr old Barry Larkin who was a 3 at SS. Some of the better EBL players would sign with MLB as FA. Now parts of my league are edited so I manually signed historic EBL players myself to keep them in the EBL. You can have different years for financials & modifiers just have to uncheck some boxes. For $40,000 you want before 1960 approx just not sure when.. I would leave the fictional players in but thats just me. Start a dynasty thread. my league was originally created when i was around 9 or 10 when i turned my star Wars & GI Joe's into baseball players. As far as staying into the league maybe be able to get fired and manage in different leagues. For my reboot of my EBL vs MLB league in the next 5-10 years I will start in 2000 vs 2003 and all players no matter which league they played for can be drafted by any league with a shared Ammy draft in November. and i will see how many teams I can manage 2000-2050. I always manually load settings each preseason. I redo financials each start of FA for the following year.

As I mentioned I planned on setting up the league "Stats Only" except I will use "Other Ratings" to help discern speed/defense.
When evaluating pitchers in this type of set-up, how can you tell if a pitcher has 3 solid pitches to be/become a starter or do you just rely on the recommended role produced by your scout?

What is "League Reputation" and what effect does it have on a game?
