I planned on reviewing more of the formulas that make up the components so there might have been another update in a few weeks but I figured out how to chain a pitchers components in a non-linear way in one swell foop so it will be available as soon as the uploads complete.
On the OOTP Wiki now, Dropbox soon. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nubmvyjies...OTP16.zip?dl=0

What settings do I need in historical? Automatically Import historical rookies or use random rookies from all eras, or both?

Straight historical, Auto import rookies. If you want Random debut check both.

pitchers components
This will be the last update until next year unless someone finds an error or seven. The MLE portion of the database program was rewritten. Minor players were too good more often than not. That is no longer true but they still contribute just not usually in a league leading way.

What about the Historical Rookies Settings? Do I need to do anything with those? DO I need to click the Automatically import Historical Rookies button? The Use Randon Rookies from All Eras? Both

Joe Hauser (For Instance)
Partially due to a short porch in Minneapolis that would not allow space for a decent sized rocking chair Joe hit 69 HR's in 1933.
Currently the MLE's put him at 60 since the overall league average was 12 in that year. BUT Personal Park Factor........... I just added formulas that would compare the HR's Joe hit to the other players on his team (avg 27) and what the other players in the league hit in Minneapolis (avg 20). Making these adjustments would lower his MLE HR's to 37 (if I leave his own 69 HR's in the averages) or 43 (if I don't count what he contributed hisownself). BTW his MLE doubles went up and his outs made as well using this new formula which makes pretty much sense I think. A few of his HR's got caught by the RF'er and some of them turned into doubles. K's and walks would stay the same I think. If I make the change to adjust MLE's by team (to account for park influences) as well as league, I'd do it for the stats that a park could effect, pretty much the things that make up slugging pct for and against on both the pitching and the hitting side. I chose Joe for this example as he is the most extreme sample I could think of. I also used Jim Baxes and his years in Hollywood as a sample as well as several others. Implement or not? Better ideas?

Implement I would say, but I would also say it's your work, so go with what you think is right. That 60 HR would make Hauser beastly in and around 1933, especially for those of us that use recalc three years (double weighted on the year in question). Perhaps too beastly for those of us that want some semblance of realism (after all he was in the minor leagues in a stadium with a short porch at the time).

1) 37 (if I leave his own 69 HR's in the averages)
2) 43 (if I don't count what he contributed hisownself) I'm leaning to #2 because I'm not sure he should be penalized for being able to take better advantage of the park exploit than the other players in the league. Reward should go to the better adapted? Kind of like a sea turtle or a saltwater croc or a giant blue flying squid.

On third thought I'm thinking #1 since the point of the database is to remove all vestiges of any exploits.

Spritze, thanks for the great database and all your work - using it with an OOTP 16 Random Debut historical league in 1920 and it just a blast. Masaichi Kenada as my Brooklyn Robins' ace, a nice twist.

I was recently doing a MLB historical replay and saw that in 1914, the Federal League teams got added to the league. Although that is a very interesting addition, I would prefer that the Federal League not show up in my game.
Is there any way to prevent that from happening? |

Just make any players they have signed free agents and delete the teams from your league.
