Minor leagues or reserve roster?
I am starting a season in 1994 With no history and random historical rookies thrown in during the career. My question is should I have minor leagues or just a reserve roster?

You can do whichever one you want to do. If you're worried about not having the right amount of players right away just have it use ghost players until your league fills more.
Guys still develop on the reserve roster, it more depends if you want to see their stats or not. Players on the reserve roster do not accrue stats, but do develop normally when it is in effect.

Minors because to me it's easy to look at a guys stats and see what's he's doing or not doing. Can't get that with reserves

I'm with PadreMan, even in leagues where I play with ratings, I would rather have a minor league system to where I can see the statistics and judge how they are developing by the "eye test."
If you don't need the stats or just want things simpler, you shouldn't feel strange if you only want to use the reserve roster, though.

I like reserve rosters, but I don't manage or gm, so my opinion probably isn't worth much. In past years if you wanted only major league stats to show, all you had to do is select a player make the "major league level" selection and that selection stuck until the next time you opened the game. This was changed for 16. You now have to make the "major league level" selection each and every time you view a players career stats. For that reason alone, I prefer not to have minor leagues.

I like the minors because I can see the stats and have a little guidance from the minor league personal I hire.
