I probably get 5-6 games per season rained out (for my team) and have a double header (incorrectly) created. I also get 5-6 per year that are shortended due to rain. Seems excessive to me...
BTW, my incorrect double header comment applies to a home game getting rained out and the double header getting put on a road game. The double header is then played with one game at home and one on the road. This happens 1-2 times per season.

That isn't incorrect. The only 'incorrect' portion of it is that it would have been played in the same stadium, except with one game having the 'home' team as visitors and the 'visitors' as the home team. It's not the same circumstances of course, but it would work just like the series the O's played in St. Pete against the Rays.

Generally, the game is put as a double header on another home game between the two teams or on a common off day. If neither can be found then it may be made up that way, but its pretty rare. Far more rare than it is in game. Plus, in game you are playing at two different stadiums on the same day. I realize programming the "right" way to do it is probably extremely difficult but common off days or another homestand in the same city is probably more doable than the game actually does (don't have proof though).

The difference is in reality the game wouldn't be made up unless it absolutely has to. That's the difference and why it seems to happen so much more in OOTP than in reality. In OOTP EVERY game must be played regardless of whether or not it needs to be.

also, just out of curiosity what part of "Not the same circumstances" was difficult to understand? I'm just curious as to why being rude when you're asking for an explanation is necessary.

Sounds like you're the one being rude. I was just pointing out that it was an extremely rare (and irrelevant) comparison..

It wasn't used as a comparison. It was used as an example of how it would work. (ie. The home team would be the visitors and vice-versa) The circumstances, in this case the riots, are completely irrelevant. Whether it was due to a city burning or 6 feet of snow the result would be the same.

I think for right now this is a very acceptable solution. Can't imagine how hard it would be for a game to process whether a makeup game is needed or not. |

Agreed. It would be very, very difficult. A lot of how the MLB determines whether or not to make up a game is on human logic, which computers just cannot do yet. Using the current MLB set up the AI wouldn't be able to make a lot of determinations on it until late August or September as almost all teams are technically still in contention and have a chance to make it to the playoffs even if it's an unrealistic one.

I don't like the way the game handles it. I would prefer just cancelling that game vs playing in two different stadiums on the same day. But it is what it is. I understand the limitations of trying to make a road team the home team at an away stadium. I also understand if they don't want to (or can't) just remove games from the schedule. Can live with it. Just goofy.
