Anyone a PC whiz? Crash Question

So I'm trying to troubleshoot why I'm having issues with OOTP crashing. A couple of times it has crashed and when it restarted it said it had to reset my display option to default (had been on 1920 x 1080). It also crashed (unknown reason) during a season, a couple of times when retiring a player and most recently after an auto save and then trying to immediately make a manual backup.

The consensus from most of the veterans on here is that OOTP 16 is by far the most stable release. So, I'm trying to figure out why my 6-month old gaming PC is having so many issues.

I recently used Driver Detective to see if my motherboard had outdated drivers. It found 4. One was a keyboard/mouse driver and the other a driver for my printer. I assume those would not effect OOTP? The other two were a Realtek High Definition Audio driver and a SATA 6G Controller driver. Could either of those played into it?

The only issues I've had with this PC (custom built by CyberPower PC) is that sometimes when I power it on it will not read my internet connection (hard wired) but is fixed with a restart. I'm guessing maybe the SATA driver could have been the issue? Other than that it has been fine. My GPU (GTX 770) drivers are all updated. Any ideas what it could be?

You may wish to check out the crash thread (85 posts) in the proper forum..."Technical Support". You may find your answer there. Good luck!

"after an auto save and then trying to immediately make a manual backup."

I've had this one.

My fix is after an auto save I exit OOTP, restart OOTP and then make a manual backup. It has always worked when I do this task this way.

That's an awful long process to go through to make a backup, no?

So it does sound like its related to the game. It doesn't like making a manual backup right after it just auto-saved...

That's for Facegen or 3D crashes which doesn't apply to my situation. But yes, I had looked there before posting this.

My guess is my system runs out of some resource that gets freed up by exiting OOTP because when a league is small with only a few years to process you don't need to exit.

I've made dozens of backups without ever having to restart the game. But...I never tried one right after an auto-save. I guess I could see how some system resources may have still been processing even though the game could still be played. That might explain the most recent one...

Just wanted to make sure you were aware of that thread.
I know how frustrating crashes can be. Glad I don't have any now.

The GTX 770 uses about 250 watts all by itself, and up to 300 watts under stress. Could it have something to do with you PSU? How many watts is your power supply?

850. I've never seen it run hot or shut down. I think if anything it is tied to my motherboard (Gigabyte X79-UP4) but haven't had any other issues other than the Internet not connecting. I think the latest issue may have just been me trying to Mack up a backup when the PC wasn't done processing the auto-save. Sucks that I lost 15 years of play but what can I do

You should call CyberPower PC to go over any issue with something not running right on your PC. If you pay for a customer built PC I thought that was part of the deal. I know I can call Falcon Northwest about ANY issue and they will help get it resolved.

With that said I also doubt it is an issue with the PC itself. I play on my Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and have no issues at all, and it does not have the power of your machine.

Yeah I tried calling them and their support was garbage. All they could offer was for me to pack up the entire rig and send it back and wait two weeks for them to send it back, hopefully fixed.

Sorry about that. It is bad when one of these companies that promote themselves as a great custom built computer manufacture but then does useless support. it gives all a bad name. That is why I stick with the oldest and best, Falcon Northwest. I can and have built my own, but I can't make it as good as Falcon does, and they really are not that much more expensive when you compare item for item.

Not the first time I've heard this.
