Stop the bleeding

I don't get how to pitch in this game. I have pretty good pitchers. But of course they too will lose sometimes. But it always seems to happen in one or two innings. Felix Hernandez can pitch perfect for one and two innings and then give up 7 runs in the third. I don't know how to stop it. I have tried to pitch, pitch away, hold runners, pitch to contact. It doesn't matter what I do, when the computer starts a rally, I know that I'm done for the day. It doesnt' feel good to hook my starter just because the computer gets two men on base in the same inning, but right now that seems like the only solution.

How do you guys pitch?

I play 1 pitch mode so i just have them throw it to them and pitch around in certain situations. How many times has King Feliz struggled in the 3rd inning. Post a screenshot of his game log.

Believe it or not there is value in the "visit mound" option. A lot of people think it is just window dressing or to find out if a pitcher is tired but it does have a calming affect on pitchers (which Markus has confirmed).

Doesn't always work but I have gotten out of a lot of jams by using it. Even if you just brought in a reliever and he gives up a hit to the first guy go out for a visit and see if he gets out of the inning.

I can relate to your issue. I've experienced a lot of SP's cruising along and then it's one terrible 4-6 run inning. Happened to me with Kevin Gausman. He was great innings 1-3 but like clockwork was getting destroyed in the 4th. I usually play the game in one pitch mode and will sim an inning at a time until later in the game. When Gausman pitches, I switch and begin pithing out each of his bats in 1 pitch mode as soon as he starts going though the order for the second time. It seems to help (more psychologically for me than anything else!!)

You are too involved. Let the game play out more. I remember a post some years ago where the guy complained about too many caught stealing. Turns out he was attempting 2X, 4X as many steals. I thought it was good that the in-game engine punished that. Don't game the game.
