Getting Frustrated (Random Rookies)
So, I've been trying for days to set a league with the 2015 start, but the future drafts being composed of random historical rookies. I have checked both of the boxes and set the database path to ootp16/stats. Does someone know definitively whether this is possible? I'd really appreciate any guidance that I could get.

This is a good question. And you may have to do a specific test for us.
The problem the random guys may not be showing up YET is because the QS already comes with 4-5 years of draft classes already to be called up when the draft pool is create. Thus there are no open spots, so no need to bring in random players till maybe 2019 or 2020. The test is either a) sim out a game until the 2020 draft and see if any random players then show up. b) or start in 2015delete out the new rookies in the player lists who will become the draft pool players (ie when the draft pool is called no one will be there) hence the game will either have to make a fictional class for 2015 or will go the random players right away. You can't wait until after the draft class of real prospects is created and delete them then, as the game won't go looking for the random historical check box. Did that make sense? IF you give those a run it might tell a lot about it Good luck. |

You may need to create a historical league in 2014 to accomplish this.

I don't know if it was in relation to this but I do remember at one time I went into the .csv player database and added a 1 to every player ID. I think the issue I was trying to solve there was that OOTP already knew that Babe Ruth, say, (id: "bruth") has already played but if I changed his id, then OOTP had no problem re-introducing a player that was exactly like Babe Ruth but had the player id "bruth1".

Thanks for all the suggestions - will give them a shot. To answer Painmantle's question, I want to start in 2015 with the Opening Day Rosters. From that point on, I want all of the draft classes to be random historical rookies.

I just did this. I started a standard game, I erased all retired players, checked the option to import random historical rookies, changed the draft to November and it worked like a charm. Had 21-year old Ken Griffey Jr come in for the 2015 draft (and others).
Nothing else was needed. |

Did you delete the retired players? You don't even need to regenerate the draft class. Just delete the retired players, check the box and it worked for me with 600 imported players.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly, you deleted the retired.dat file?

Thanks I will try that and then B. Rodgers won't be the first pick but maybe the 10th pick.

Ok, this seems to work in the first year although I also had to delete the draft class. By Year 3, though, it's back to all fictional rookies.

[QUOTE=rcook;3859644]Ok, this definitely works although I had to delete the first draft class. In future years it's a mix of fictional and real players.
