"invalid player file"

I checked the message board for any threads regarding this, and didn't find any, so I hope I'm not be annoyingly repetitive. I had been playing a league with the lahman database for quite some time (about 21 seasons), and just recently when I try and open up that league, I get an "Invalid Player File" prompt and can not play that league. Other leagues seem to work fine, however. Did I just delete some important file in the league folder accidentally or something? Just thought someone might have seen this. I use Windows XP, 384MB RAM, and P4 1.6GHz processor

I don't know what you did, but unless you have a backup of the league file it is pretty much dead.

This same problem just happened to me minutes ago, I'm about 12 years in, and OOTP froze, to clear it I had to Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

When I got back, I get this "Invalid Player File" box before it loads the front screen, and a windows box saying that the game has performed an illegal operation and must close when I click on "Continue League".

Any help would be vastly appreciated, as I really am not wanting to restart..

please, back up often... at least once per season. I like to back up at the start of each season - after FA and trades and draft and schedule.

A nice hint... either archive or delete your old box scores... those things take forever while backing up. If you delete or move them, your back-ups will be much faster.

Yeah i had this same thing happen to me, but i was a good 30 years into the sim. Just had to start over.

I guess you just gotta go by the old programmers maxim, "Save early, Save Often"

Same problem here (made no changes to the the game it just happend out of the blue). Not much in the way of tech support. I guess live and learn, but this seems like a major problem...I guess we are just sool. With these kinds of unxplained file corruptions maybe the next version of OOTP should include an auto backup along with its auto-save.

I don't know about you but in my experience ANY and all programs can come up with this type of issue for any variety of reasons, they are not specific to OOTP. Maybe you have not had that experience, if not count yourself lucky.

Issues like this can happen for any number of reasons, from having a fragmented HD, to running too many programs while having the game open and not having enough memory to do so, to faulty hardware issues to a grocery list of other various reasons.

I have been playing v5 in various forms and stages for 8-10 months and I don't think I have had this problem but possibly one time(I'm not even certain about that). Keep in mind that I have the program open while having a number of other programs open 5-8 hours a day so if anyone would have had their fill of this if it was "primarily" an OOTP issue I think it would be me.

i had the problem when i first started using 5.x Since then i've been going for months with no problems at all.
