Real life MLB team popularity.

Map shows the most popular MLB team in every US county - Business Insider

I knew New England was Red Sox country, but Interior Alaska, who knew?

interesting.

(how can the Mets and A's be "the only teams not represented," though-? There has got to be a county somewhere on Long Island, Queens, or the Bay Area where the Mets top the Yanks and A's top the Giants -- ??)

@the devs: Is this taken into account when it comes to club market sizes and fan interest?

Not with bandwagoning that winning 3/5 WS or being the Walmart of American sports (and winning 27 WS) will bring the Giants and Yankees. Maybe in the early 70s or late 80s the A's and Mets would have done better on that map.

Man do the M's and Rockies have some large, beautiful and sparsely populated regions under their domain. If the Rockies could get some ski-bum or grizzly loving pitchers who don't care about their stats...

Good point. I partly grew up on LI in the mid/late-80s. Suffolk Co. NY at that time was, as far as I could see, definitely Mets country, the memories of '86 and '88 still fresh in our minds...

Utah must be a tough place to live. Evenly split between Red Sox and Yankee fans

I saw this last year. Cool to see they've updated it for this year.

I was about to say it was probably due to Curt Schilling being from Anchorage. Then I saw that Anchorage is firmly in Mariner country.

Still could be a possible reason, though.

Also, anyone else notice the random Pirates fans in Idaho?

Here's betting that Texas switches quite a bit in the next few years, seeing as the Astros seem to be getting better, while the Rangers are getting worse.

Man, I'll bet that whole map was "Cardinals" west of the Mississippi - and the Braves, Marlins, and Rays country - pre-1950. The good ol' days of KMOX!

Well, it's Idaho, so it might just be a guy who used to live in Pittsburgh is the only one living in that county.
