My OOTPB Nightmare!

My OOTPB nightmare is someday receiving a newsletter announcing that OOTPB has been discontinued in favor of this watered-down version. Sound far-fetched? Remember when people were talking about tablets replacing PC's and laptops?

Lesson: Hold onto your big-boy hardware and the latest version of OOTPB!

"Hey there!" indeed.

Totally agree, will never get rid of my laptop, in fact I still have the laptop before this just to run Sierra's Front Page Sports FB 97. Don't need the "more portable" version of OTBB, I'll stick with the full deal.
Your nightmare won't happen till 2025 when OOTP is bought by EA Sports for $250 million

"Hey there" sounds more like he's hitting on someone at a bar

That is a nightmare I hope never happens. While I'd never fault Markus for taking an obscene amount of money, but as a huge fan of this series I'd love to have this game remain in the hands of the OOTP team forever.

From your typing fingertips to God's display-reading eyes! Although I don't think we could depend on Markus to pass up an opportunity like that. All the more reason to hang onto your hardware and the last version of OOTPB!

You, my dear fellow, are in a prime position to report on the differences between the two versions. I hope that you will return here and do so some day.

Only $250M?

Microsoft paid $2.75 _BILLYYAWN_ to Mojang for Minecraft!

Surely a simulation of a game loved by millions of real people for over a century, and witch nets at least hundreds of millions in REAL revenues every year can command more than some computer-game Leggo simulator!?

There never has and never will be any accounting for taste. Especially bad taste.

I honestly see iootp/MLB Manager/whatever as a sort of "gateway drug" to Real OOTP. A little something for the kiddos/beginners. Looked at that way, it's not so bad.

But I'm with you, I wouldn't want the actual game to become a phone or Facebook thing. Ugh! Goodbye, customizability!

This post needs a "theme song." Given your affinity for '70s culture, I got the perfect one

I want to look at it that way, too, but I fear that an app on several hundred thousand phones may outweigh a full program on a few thousand computers in term of both gross revenue (more) and development expense (less) so why not go that way and mothball the full version of OOTPB?

Yes, I know this is far-fetched (It is, isn't it? Right?). Yes, I know I think and worry too much - it's a curse, I tell you!

But you folks who have been around technology long enough: Can you recall similar situations and occurrences? I bet you can.

When everybody (but me) will be carrying multi-tool swiss-knife game console-phones in their pockets (I hate phones) in 20 years, then my OOTP 12 will still work, so I'll be fine.

That's the beauty of offline gaming.

My OOTP nightmare is that Markus gets hired by the Boston Red Sox to join their front office and another guy comes in and decides to "rebrand" OOTP.

Everybody said the same thing about the Game Boy when it came out. Console sales are higher than they have ever been. Cell phone games are a novelty that help pass the time when taking a dump. Nothing more.
