The China Baseball Association - Tournaments, Promotion and Relegation

Quickstart avalable! Play with your own China Baseball Association. Starts at the 2019 Emperor's Cup Final
China Baseball Association Quickstart

UPADTE DEC 2016:CBA IS BACK WITH A BACKUP RESTORED FROM MY EXT HDD!

This Dynasty is a spin off of the China Baseball League Dynasty. Unlike the main dynasty, this league will use the promotion / relegation system and (inspired by the Champions Baseball Association dynasty) feature a number of tournaments. It is a prestige based association. The teams will be the same as my main dynasty, but to avoid confusion, feature completely different players (making it more of an 'alternate universe' dynasty. I will use my solo non-reporting CBL league and players I've been running for 2 years (since OOTP 13) as a base and rearrange the structure. (That league was my basis for the CBL I am reporting)

There are 4 leagues with 10 teams each. Here are the leagues:
Ming League - The top level of the CBA. The reputation is 10.
Han League - The 2nd level of the CBA with a reputation of 7.
Qin League - The 3rd level of the CBA with a reputation of 5.
Xia League - The bottom level of the CBA with a reputation of 3.

Emperor's Cup History
2015 - Jiangsu Hopestars over Tianjin Lions
2016 - Harbin Dongbei over Shanghai Eagles
2017 - Guangzhou HF over Urumqi Egrets
2018 - Guiyang Dinosaurs over Tianjin Lions
2019 - Xining Haihu over Beijing Tigers

Tournaments:

Chinese New Year Cup: This is the pre season tournament of the CBA starting at or near Chinese New Year. All 40 teams will take part in this single elimination tournament. The Emperor's Cup Champion from last season will earn the #1 seed. Seeding is based on the past seson's standings. Seeds 25 and under (5th place Qin League and below) will play an extra game.

The Emperor's Cup: This is the ultimate tournament of the CBA. There are 10 teams in this tournament: The top 4 teams of the Ming League, the top 3 teams in the Han League, the top 2 teams of the Qin League, and the regular season champion of the Xia League. The first round will be a best of 3 series while the quarterfinals and semifinals are a best of 5. The finals will be best of 7.

The Tournament of the Ming Emperor: The top 4 teams will face each other to prove who is the best of the Ming League. It is a best of 5 series

Teams in the bottom 2 of the ML will be relegated to the Han League.

Tournament of the Han Emperor: The top 2 teams face off for the champion of the Han League. The participants are then promoted to the Ming League. It is a best of 5 series

Hanming Cup: The 3rd place team from the Han League plays the 8th place team in the Ming League. The teams are promoted and relegated if the Han League team wins the Cup while the teams stay in their repectable leagues if the Ming League team wins the Cup. It is a 5 game series with home field to the Ming league team.

The bottom 4 teams in the Han League are relegated to the Qin League.

Tournament of the Qin Emperor The top 2 teams face off for the champion of the Qin League. The participants are then promoted to the Han League. It is a best of 5 series.

Qin Cup: The 3rd to 6th place team will play for the right to be promoted to the Han League. The finalists will be promoted to the Han League while the winner takes home the Qin Cup trophy. The 1st round is a best of 3 series while the finals is a best of 5 series.

The bottom 4 teams in the Qin League are relegated to the Xia League

Tournament of the Xia Emperor: The first and second place team play for the Xia League Championship. The participants will be promoted to the Qin League. It is a best of 5 series

Xia Cup: The 3rd to 6th place team play for the right to be promoted to the Qin League. The finalists are promoted to the Qin League and the winner of the Xia Cup earns the trophy. Both rounds will be a best of 3 series.

The regular season last 120 games and starts early April. There is no DH for all leagues. There is a shared draft for all leagues. Each team is limited 25 actives and reserves.

ML
The Falcons are not looking very good early in the season. If they remain this low, the Hefei maybe thinking of the Han League. Shijiazhuang are off to a slow start. They were predicted to qualify for the Emperor's Cup and the ML tournament.

I saw the reputation adjustments...are there salary shifts as well? And are you doing manual playoffs for the 3vs4 pairings?

The Han Cup will be manually scheduled via schedule editor. This association is prestige based, so no salary shifts.

For now, here is a story of how the CBA came to be.

From the CLPB to CBL to CBA
Baseball was introduced in China over 100 years ago by the Japanese university teams. In 1915, four teams were formed, becoming the China League of Professional Baseball (CLPB). The league has made baseball the most popular sport in China. However, due to unrest between the KMT and the Communists, and the lack of competition recently, the CLPB may fold. Since 1931, when the Championship series called the China Series was introduced, only Sichuan, Guangzhou, and Jiangsu made an apperence and won at least one of them. For Beijing and Tianjin, they dwelled in the bottom, and this cause anger among the players. When the revolution started in 1947, the CLPB folded, but the popularity of baseball remained.

In 1950, under Mao Zedong, a new professional baseball league was introduced, it is called the China Baseball League (CBL). It originally had 16 teams seperated into 2 leagues, the Mao League and the Han League. The league expanded to 20 teams in 1962, and 24 teams in 1969, which introduced division play and the LCS. Despite the Cultural Revolution, China maintained a strong grip in baseball and in 1977, the league contunues to expand. In 1993, the league expaned to 28 teams seperated by 3 divisions of the Mao League and the Zhou League. The CBL expanded to the current 30 teams in 1998.

The CBL, however did not solve the competiveness of the league. There are still some teams that still have not made a playoff appearance. The Chongqing swallows sitll have not made an appearance in the playoffs. So in 2012, the CBL expaned the postseason to 10 teams with 2 wild cards facing each other. Recently, there have been a huge gap between standings. Teams such as Changsha and Jiangsu recently have been winning 100+ games while some teams have 100 losses. In 2014, Changsha beat Guilin in the final China Series of the CBL. Immedietly after the China Series, the commissioner left the office, and there were questions surrounding the furture of the CBL. In November, a new commissioner stepped in, who is a former president of the Chinese Super League (Soccer). He would radically change the CBL. First he proposed that the league will change from the North American style league with divisions and sub leagues to the European style of Promotion and Relegation. Then he would introduce a number of tournaments to the new system. He divided the CBL in to 10 teams in 3 leagues and named it after Chinese dynasties: the Ming League, the Han League and the Qin League. This would become the China Baseball Association we know today. He promised that the new system will begin in 2015 and hopes that will be more competitive than the CBL.

Ming League
WOW! Look at the Dragons and Hopestars! They ended the month with a HUGE winning streak!

For the Yuanshuai, unless they can win out, they will not even qualify for next season's Chinsese New Year Cup. Remember back in the pre season, when they were picked to qualify for the Emperor's Cup.

Tigers, Dongfang, and Falcons... See You in the Han League!

Dragons

HopeStars

Han League
Looks like Shenzhen can live another year in the Han League.

Qin League
The stage is all set for the Tournament of the Qin Emperor.

A 17-11 June and 16-12 July puts Nanchang from last place to 5th place at the end of July meaning they have a chance to qualify for the Chinese New Year Cup.
