Ballparks with 500+ft dimensions
Hello all
Was wondering if anyone knew of any ballparks that had dimensions that ever exceeded 500ft at all? I recall the old Braves Field did at one time, and possibly Polo Grounds, but was wondering if there were more out there at all that I can't recall?

I loved playing at the Polo Ground in High Heat. So many inside the park home runs.

Old Yankee Stadium was close (490 ft to CF)
West Side Park, former home of the Chicago Cubs. It was used beginning 1893 until 1915. Its center field was 560 ft.

Polo Grounds IV was the only one that was 500+ for multiple seasons. Going from memory, the only other stadiums that were 450+ were Yankee Stadium, Tiger Stadium, and Forbes field. I'm almost certainly missing some pre-WWI parks though.

Visit this site to see overhead diagrams of every major league park from the 20th century onwards. This includes diagrams at different points in a park's history (since many of early parks were reconstructed more than once).
The deepest center fields appear to be the 483 feet of the Polo Grounds (in its 1923 configuration) and the 490+ feet of Yankee Stadium (in its configurations prior to 1938). Last edited by Le Grande Orange; 02-11-2015 at 04:56 PM. |
