Can this league be done

So I'm thinking about starting a new GM only league when OOTP 16 comes out and here is my idea.

The league will take place 5 years after the American Civil War. However, instead of the war being won by the Union the war ended in a draw. It was decided that they would stop fighting and the United States would be seperated into 2 countries, North United States and South United States. I want to setup 2 leagues, 1 in the North which features 12 teams in 1 subleague, top 4 teams move onto a playoff and the same setup for the South United States. Once the 2 winners are decided for the North and South they meet in a 7 game series called the Civil War. Winner is the United States Champion.

So my question is can this be setup in OOTP? Is there a way to limit the draft to players from certain States so that the North only has players in the draft from Northern States? Can I have 2 leagues meet in a series at the end?

You can certainly set up a championship series between the two leagues. Just put them into a league association.

It will be surprising if OOTP 16 lets you limit rosters to particular U.S. states, but I don't think that your hypothetical needs that. If the Southern secession had lasted, it's highly unlikely that either nation would have seriously restricted immigration from the other. The larger issue, if you want to be quasi-historical, is that a U.S. MLB would very likely have been integrated, while its C.S. counterpart wouldn't have been. OOTP has, so far as I know, no way to reproduce that difference.

Because both leagues are together, no you can't limit the draft to a certain area individually..nice idea though.
However, the great thing about ootp is it's customization.
You could create 2 separate leagues (games). One for just the North and one for the South and set the regions separately for each. Hold the draft and then export the rosters for the 2 separate lgs (games).
Export your rosters from the Combined north south lg.
Now copy all player data EXCEPT player ids (never replace player ids) from the separate north lg. and replace the north's data in your combined lg. Do the same for the south.
That would give you all players from the northern region on the north teams and all players from the southern region on your south teams.
I'm not sure if there's just a north and south region designated for the U.S. but you can surely create it. and ootp will use it.
You'd have to mod the regions in the default_world.xml file so the states you want are in the region you choose .

I had this idea back a lil while ago and had someone, forgot who, make the Confedercy into their own country.
You can do teh North vs South as an association if you want, problem is you can not turn off trading within an association so if Boston has Jackie Robinson he can still be traded to Atlanta. I also use the Civil War as my World Series name.
See my ABF thread.

Here is that edited world default to show the Confedercy as a seperate nation. You could limit players in the North to the "USA and players in the South from the Confederacy and their are ways to make sure that no non whites would be created for the South. Bigrod can help ya with that one. Also might want to use Questdogs name set.

Why can't you just create two separate leagues, linked by a league association, and each has their own separate draft, from two completely different draft pools?

Problem with that is that you can not turn trading off within an association so if he wants the South to be all white and the North has AA's then they will be traded to the South eventually.

You can't disable "Trades with other major leagues"?

You should be able to turn off trades with other leagues and not allow the league to sign free agents from other leagues, that should work

I agree, I do this all the time having an all Negro Major League vs an all Caucasian Major League as separate ML's in an Association together...

I could be wrong but I thought thats what I read in the manual. I can't find it now. Try testing it and let me know.
