scouting issues
Here are some problems with the scouting:
1) Real scouting departments hire far more than a scouting director to be good. Teams spend millions of dollars on scouting, they don't just hire a Legendary-Legendary scouting director and then dominate the game. 2) characteristics such as loyalty, injury proneness, and team leadership should be mild factors in a scout's star rating, if they are not already. 3) star ratings of every player in the game should be through the eyes of your scout. Also, if you set the salary caps before an initial draft, the teams should not overdraft the salary cap Thanks, Jamie

Here are a couple of wishes....
- How about a manager of the year award? - How about totals for your career stats (not just Wins/Loses) in Manger Mode? - Double-Headers? - Rainouts? Thanks! Jrexi |

To make OOTP be the ultimate fantasy baseball simulator, the addition of online league play would be the key component. A game where GMs can play against each other live, make moves live, manage live, would be the addition of the 21st century.
To me, this should be on the top of the list...all the statistical errors (or additions), all the grammar errors, all the AI problems, should be secondary. I think once it can be played online and integrated into league play, then the smaller desires should be implemented. |

how about a general manager and manager for every AI controll teams. they can be fired and hire just like you can. this should be the first priority for ootp. also, i would like to play as a general manager and make all the trades and drafts and hire managers.

what about a japanese league (or for earlier years Negro Leagues) to sign players out of, like Satchel Paige or Ichiro. and maybe an independent league for guys like Rickey Henderson to hang out in until somebody wants to sign him.

I see this thread is kind of old, but for future versions....
IN-GAME * Let base-stealers steal. I get far too many instances of "he doesn't get a good jump" when I'm trying to steal, especially with guys who are rated A or B in base-stealing. Occasionally, it's fine, but it happens way too much. I actually like it better when my guy is thrown out than when the game tells me I can't send him. * Allow for steals of home. * Allow a distinction between a suicide squeeze and a safety squeeze. * Allow for more than one defensive option -- specifically, allow me to play the infield AND outfield in. * Allow the defense to cut off a throw. I've had a bunch of tying or go-ahead runs reach 2nd on what would, in real life, be ill-advised throws. (Of course, this is actually realistic as I find that real OFs tend to make more ill-advised throws than good ones.) * This one is minor, but it does happen...Occasionally, I'll play against a team that makes a double-switch which results in the pitcher's spot being due up SOONER rather than later. * And if the pitchers could be assigned speed ratings, even randomly, that'd be cool. I mean, not ALL pitchers are slow. I don't mind them all having steal ratings of E, but the speed ratings could vary. Again, I don't care if it's random, like their pitch repetoire. OTHER: * Add a few stats to the career leader boards. Off-hand, I'd like to see games, IP, walks and losses for pitchers; at-bats, OBP and SLG for hitters. * Work the player's photo into the HOF plaque as a thumbnail. * Sort HOF'ers by position. * Maybe have HOF standards by position, since few catchers are ever going to have 3,000 hits or 500 homers? Allow for strikeouts to be considered as criteria for HOF. * Allow option of simming through certain e-mails such as player development, winning on promo days or player complaints. Anyway, that's what comes to mind right now. I also like a lot of the suggestions made in the original post. ...Of course, even if none of these changes are made, the game is great as is. |

I'd like to see contract negotiations recoded to allow option years. I'd love to sign that big money 32 year old slugger or starting pitcher to a 3 year deal with a club option for a 4th if he's still performing at the same level.
Too often, they'll be studs for a couple more years, but drop off quickly. I had a 36 year old SP who was a 5 star spend 2 weeks on the DL in September and by Spring Training of the next year, had dropped to a 1.5 star guy... on the other hand, some guys perform well at 38, 39, etc. This would be a VERY sweet addition.

Quote:
1. More career stats tracked... never too many stats... on the same hand, there should be something in the news when a new career mark is broken or tied... Can there be a way to track career & single-season marks by position (i.e. all time HR's by a catcher like Javy Lopez set this season)... there should also be a list (similar to career leaders list) of the top single-season records (i.e. Bonds' 73 HRs, McGwire's 70, etc, etc)... also, how about tracking monthly records (most hits/HR/even team Wins in a single month)... and how about more streaks (most consecutive wins, longest winning/losing streak for a team, or longest such streak to start the season)... 2. photo HOF plaque is excellent & can be optional, so that if player photos are enabled, the plaques shows up... also, if the game won't assign a team to the player's plaque, maybe it should be an editable field (like the records page is editable) so we can type in the team who he chose when entering the HOF... also, if team logos are used on the player's HOF plaque, logos change over time... the plaque should refer to the logo from a certain year in the almanac so the team's old logo always appears... for example, imagine Nolan Ryan with the 70's/80's Angels or Astros logos versus their current logos... 3. HOF'ers by position is excellent & a big need... for that matter, lets sort retired players by position... that way I can see who has the most career hits for a 2nd baseman, etc... 4. HOF standards definitely need to be expanded... Several HOF'ers wouldn't fit the current standard of 3000 hits/500 HR or 2500 hits w/ .300 avg, such as Gary Carter or Ozzie Smith... This may have already been mentioned... if so, feel free to delete this one...
But I would also like to see WHIP as a sortable stat for pitchers. It shows up on their detail screen, but it's not on their HTML report (would be nice) or any of the sortable stats views.

I apologize if this has been in and, actually, I'm confident it has been, but I would love to see more interaction with the media, similar to CM.
The media plays such an ENORMOUS role in pro sports (take for example that the Mets are interested in signing Luis Castillo, but are concerned about how he'll react to the NY spotlight). CM makes you interract with the media. You have to respond to stories, can release a story praising or slamming a player - it adds a whole new demention and makes the game and league not an island, but an organization in a virtual "world". |

here is a simple one....... for the schedule editor, I'd like to be able to export a schedule I make and import it later at the start of a season in any game, this way, for example, a commish can make a schedule well in advance for an online league.
The ability to have interleague auto generated would be nice too. Last edited by Karen Lutz; 11-07-2003 at 05:05 AM. |

Here's one to add....
In Manager mode how about having the ability to set new records as a manager. For example have all the records set by all time managers in terms of most career wins, wins in a season, etc. That would be awesome! Thanks. Jrexi |

Three suggestions:
1. Minor league platoon splits - there's nothing worse than thinking you have a quality guy at AAA, calling him up, and watching him post a .400 OPS against one side. If the data was available beforehand, at least we'd have a fuller idea of the quality of a prospect. 2. The ability, in spring training, to work on improving platoon splits. This shouldn't be easy (perhaps on the level of learning a new position, which requires 10 points), and the effects shouldn't be immediately dramatic, but it should be something we can at least try to do. 3. The ability to have a player improve his fielding percentage, not just his range. I don't know if this would have to be a separate section on the spring training screen, or if the two could be linked, but having an A range with a .930 % just means that the guy gets to make more errors. |

The way the game is set up, it is impossible to have a strike 'em out throw 'em out double play.

First of all, wanted to quickly endorse the idea for the very occasional AA rating in speed or fielding.
Two suggestions i haven't seen here. One is just a return to OOTP4: i would like to be able to fix Team Strategies for the computer teams and have them stick. Right now - and i'm not the first one to complain - all the teams' strategies have degenerated into bland centrist mush. That's completely unrealistic, and doesn't benefit the computer teams either (since sometimes the more extreme Strategies i picked for them were very carefully fit to their roster). It also eliminates any meaningful chance for a computer team to "fire" its manager and get a new set of tactics. Two, when i click on League Transactions, League Injuries, or a team's Player Development, i don't want to watch the computer report every Transaction, Injury, or talent change from the whole year. Could we fix it so that, like with "go to first unread post" on these here boards, i would immediately be sent to "first unread injury"? |

Need an additional defense option allowing both infield and outfield to be in. Very frustrating when one has to choose one over the other in the bottom of the 9th.

I've only seen this touched upon, but what about more contract options, ie incentives? That'd be super, thanks...

Dunno if this has been posted yet...
Player's History text should not be added to the actual file until after the next season is started... This way, we could replay a season over and over, tweaking it until it's right, and then switch back to career mode, and move on, without having player histories littered with incorrect info.

THIS IS HUGE! In player settings: AVOIDING RHB, LHB, RHP, LHP. Strat-O-Matic had this in their comp game.
A guy like Jesse Orosco would NEVER face a RHB. these types of rating/setting are huge for the specialist-type baseball thats being played today |
