Marcus, Will there be DLC for 16?

$2.95 for an upadated full sound pack including 100 new .wav files?

$2.95 for a new and improved weather file that accurately represents the weather for every country in the world. The current weather file is too cold. It's good for the 1950's but not 2K.

$5.95 For 6 Prebuilt fictional stadium files. 100+ in total to choose from.

Etc. etc. etc.

I'd settle for just the 1st one though.

I hope we never go down this road. OOTP should continue to come complete and be priced accordingly. My 2 cents.

Worst idea ever.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

This is not a good idea...but if you were going to do it....why wouldn't you just incorporate it into the price of OOTP?

Charging extra looks bad.

I think the worthy chess piece was joking.

A more comprehensive weather file would be nice, though.

Fact of the matter is that I have recently purchased an audio editing program and have been dabbling. I'd like to start overlaying some organ sounds that I have found but my background sounds are slim-pickings. Also blending the texture of the sound overlays is currently challenging for me. And I keep getting this beep sound at the end of my files.

Right now it's pretty time consuming but I think once I understand what I'm doing I think it will go pretty quickly. As always I'll share with the community when I'm done. Which brings me back to the OP...

Obviously I was kidding because all of the sound files would just get shared anyway and all of the work that OOTP would have put into creating these files would be lost by all of the sharing.

Anyhoo...Once I have a nice collection of sounds I'll bump.

I would pay $2.95 for a better weather file though.

Tongue-in-cheek or not, DLC is a very slippery slope that I don't think most of us would be in favor of. Fortunately, Markus & Co. seem to be focused on giving us the best game possible, rather than going on an EA Sports-style money grab. Hopefully things remain that way.

If aspects are improved and Markus believes that's enough to increase the price of the game, that's fine. But withholding certain features or data for an extra charge would be the first step in alienating a very loyal fanbase, IMO.

Right....inflation and a better product can at times result in a price increase..and that's fine.

Putting aside the ethics of it, would it be legal for someone to sell mods for the game? I don't like the ethics of that, but this post did make me wonder if it were even possible.

The legality wouldn't matter, it would be a black hole of potential negatives that could never be worth the risk.

I have several games where the DLC has kept it fresh for several years. I think when it goes too far like Paradox titles then it becomes a problem. Me, personally, I don't mind DLC as long as it is not predatory.

I remember about 10-15 years ago buying a PS2 memory card off eBay that had the NCAA Football rosters fully named on it. The person who did them only charged for the cost of the new memory card, so I suppose he wasn't actually charging for the roster itself. And since this was before video consoles had online "hubs" where people could upload modded rosters and file sharing services were obscure, it was about the only way to get the rosters without doing them yourself.

But as Rich says, anyone who hypothetically tried to sell a mod for OOTP would be shamed out of the community, at the very least. Part of what makes this game so great is the immense talent, hard work and generosity of the dedicated modders. Anyone who goes against the flow of what those people have already done is surely going to fail.

I detest the in-game purchases in FM. It destroys my respect for the game.

If you're willing to pay for DLC, then that's fine and that's your right. I've done it with other games, some where I thought it was fair and some where I thought it wasn't.

I'm curious, though, why you would come here and basically ask Markus to add features and charge for them? Why not just post what you're looking for in the suggestions thread and see if they get added to the game at no additional cost?

Yeah it seems contrived. Especially when placed against the excitement of the new release.
