Anything that makes the Jays better I am for. They have been terrible. I need Toronto or Montreal to do something soon!!!

I was wondering if OOTP would play the original schedule or the strike shortened schedule. I wouldn't have had a problem if it went with reality, but i doubt the game can handle what actually happened

That was one of the worst World Series from a pitching standpoint for one team. Kinda annoyed how bad the Brewers were.

1981-82 Offseason News and Notes

The 1981 draft has some top end talent. The Mets repeat history and take Doc Gooden with the #1 overall pick. I’m happy the Jays picked up the powerful Jose Canseco second and Jimmy Key in the second round. Detroit had a ton of picks. This years draft will shape their future. Taking two first baseman back to back is a bit weird. MAKE A DECISION!!

The HOF commitee decided to induct Don Kaiser as a Dodger, which is fair, as he played 13 years there. He had his best years as an Oriole though. Some hugely dominant seasons back in the 50s. At his best, he belongs in the greatest ever discussion. Could not maintain that level though.

Replay Rollie Fingers appears to be almost as dominant as real life Rollie Fingers.

Willie McCovey has retired as the 2nd greatest home run hitter in history. He was unable to hit that magical 700 number, but 2nd place isn't too shabby. Here is the current list of the top 20 home run hitters of all-time.

A few of these guys look like they have been passed over for HOF induction. Top 20 home runs probably deserves to get there. Mantle, Hodges, Mathews, and Wilson need 2nd looks. Bauman is in the HOF, but it looks like i forgot to do it in game. Oops. doing it now.

Here are all the offseason trades

Here are the free agent results

And here are the single logo and uniform change for the upcoming 1982 season

1982 MLB Regular Season

Here are the top 10 prospects heading into the 1982 season.

A new season, but David Palmer is still in the Brewers rotation. He’s the number 5 starter. Doyle Alexander has left, signing with Houston in March, but there just has to be a better option, in house, or in free agency then this guy. Look at his ratings!!!

Midway through May, the Expos were in first place. I was very excited. I want Canadian teams to do well, and with the Jays in last place again, I am hoping the Expos can take the NL east. The Expos then win twice in the next 14 games, and fall to 4th. Sigh…..hopefully that's not the run that basically ends the season..

I’m not sure what the record is, but the Phillies just lost 20 straight games! I know the Cubs had a horrible start to the season some 50 years ago, and I have no idea on where to look to see if OOTP tracks this sort of thing. Regardless, 20 straight losses is notable. The Phillies started the season 17-14. That’s decent. 20 straight losses. WOW. Here’s a look at the losses.

June 1st David Palmer update. The Brewers woke up!!! After 2 starts, which included 13 innings, 20 hits, and 15 earned runs, Milwaukee sent him down. Not to AAA Vancouver, not to AA El Paso, but to A Stockton!!! That’s right, MLB to A ball. It’s where he belongs. Palmer is 6-3, with a 3.61 ERA. Crazy how this guy started a whole season, and made two World Series starts. The ordeal seems to be over…..for now.

Or maybe not… I looked at who the Brewers replaced Palmer with. Bobby Cuellar was picked up on waivers April 23rd from Detroit. Horrible idea. The 29 year old is 1-7, in 10 Brewer starts, with a 7.49 ERA!!! Come on Milwaukee. Find someone decent. Looking at Cuellar’s previous stats, I don’t see how they thought this guy could help.
Is Cuellar really better then Palmer?

The Yankee’s just made a great great trade.

Kirby Puckett has the contact potential to be a batting champion. He’s still very raw, and in this game, developing is no guarantee, but Brenly is an average catcher. This is a gamble you take every single time.

With free agency now in full swing, and much more advanced then in reality at this time, here are the top 5 paid players in baseball. Everyone of these guys other then Mike Schmidt made it to free agency.

Here are the first half trades

And here are the post all-star to the trade deadline 2nd half trades.

Reggie Jackson hits his 600th career home run. He’s 36 years old. He’s getting hurt almost every year. He’s still a great player, with huge power. Passing Gehrig seems inevitable. Killebrew will be tough though. Jackson will need to be good until 41 at least to get there…

Jackson

After going 11-7, with a 3.95 era in Stockton, David Palmer is back in Milwaukee as a September call up. He will pitch out of the bullpen. Bob Cueller was placed on waivers soon after my last update, and was picked up by Minnesota, where he has sucked. The Brewers finally have a decent 5th starter though. They acquired former Reds starter, 36 year old Mike Torrez, and he’s been great. 10 starts, 2.79 ERA. These Brewers currently trail the Indians by 1 game for the AL east. I like them to win the World Series this year, so im rooting for them.

All the other divisions are close this year. The White Sox hold a 2 game lead on the Angels. The Cards lead the Expos by half a game, and the Dodgers have a 3 game lead on the surging Braves.

On the heals of his 350th victory, Catfish Hunter announces this will be his final season. Hunter has had a horrible year, and it’s a very quick decline for him. The future Hall of Famer is 7-19, with a 7.05 ERA this year for Chicago. He’s less then 2 years removed from winning his 4th Rube Waddell award. Hunter is only 36.

Hunter

Part 2 coming up...

1982 MLB Regular Season
Part 2

Every race is close enough to follow. I wanted to follow the final week of the season, so we'll give the end of the season it's own post this year. So here is how the last week of the season played out.

The Brewers trailer the Indians by 1 game. The White Sox hold a 2 game lead on the Angels. The Cards lead the Expos by half a game, and the Dodgers have a 3 game lead on the surging Braves.

Final Standings

The St. Louis Cardinals are without a doubt the worst team to reach a World Series. They defeated the Dodgers in the NLCS, despite finishing the season 22 games below them. Even if the Cardinals sweep the Indians, on the season they will still finish under .500 with a 85-86 total record. Despite the fact the Cardinals are not a good team, Paul Molitor and the starting pitching staff are good. They are healthy and have Cinderella behind them.

Cleveland should be the big favourites. They are good, beating out my pick, Milwaukee for the AL east crown, and dusting aside the White Sox. They have a fairly balanced offense, and some star power in George Brett. Gary Carter was a great signing. He’s a leader, The pitching staff that will actually pitch is pretty equal to the Cards.

These 2 franchises have just 3 World Titles between them. The last time St. Louis was in a World Series, they were led by Babe Ruth, Tris Speaker and Lefty O’Doul!

Hahaha, i did not remember that, but yes, great call. Drafting David Palmer is only forgivable if you can immediately win a World Series!!

Mike Scott did have an incredible season. I was paying close attention to the Brewers all season, so i did notice he kept winning. His record this year was 28-7, 319 innings pitched, 17 complete games, 4 shutouts!

The all time record is 36 wins by Cy Young set in 1892.

The modern day record(season i actually played out) belongs to former White Sox star Eishiro Yoshie, who went 34-2 during the 1950 season.

I should go over the modern day single season win totals in the offseason.
