And I totally jinxed that! Honestly, this simulation sounds even more exciting than majority of the World Series in real life. One of the best series yet with a complete shocking win by the Twins. Complete underdogs.

Did not know how many weapons they had in their bullpen. Charlie Hugh, Willie Hernandez and Eck.

Most importantly, Oh wins his first World Series in his final season. What a legend and what a year!

1980-81 Offseason News and Notes

One of the deepest and most interesting drafts takes place with a surprise pick at the top. The Philadelphia Phillies pass up on Fred McGriff, Tony Gwynn and Bobby Bonilla, who i rank as worthy 1st picks in order to take Kevin Mitchell! Mitchell is very good, but I would have taken Gwynn first, as his contact potential is 25!

Such a deep draft. Very good names are all over this thing. Taken with the 11th pick in the supplemental round, is a young man named John Elway! Elway has decided to try his hand at swinging the bat in this world. I will keep an eye on him.

No HOFer's this year, but i don't expect a new trend that we experienced in the last decade. There are some worthy players approaching HOF age that will make me busy creating HOF plaques soon.

Another decade has passed, so here's a look back at all the World Series MVP's of the 1970's

Neither Brett of Schmidt put up better numbers, but both are MVP's in this reality, and are capable of doing what they did in real life...Well, i doubt my George Brett will ever hit .390!!


I am finding this funny now. Dave Winfield is traded for the fifth time, and he hasn't hit 30 yet. His ratings have taken a hit, but that could be the product of living out of a suitcase for 4 years now. Some stability would be big for him.

There are more and more trades each season, and i can't and don't want to report every single one. I'm thinking of sharing a screen shot of the trades each season and offseason post, to atleast share more information. I'll start now. If it is too much, or just clutter, let me know.

Here are the trades made this offseason.

Love Fisk to the Yankees and Hunter to the Cubbies. The Cards, after finally making the playoffs, will feel that loss. Sosa is baseballs all time saves leader. He will help Detroit.

I like seeing the trades. Glad the Yanks are making some moves. We could have really benefitted from this draft.

Oh wow. That was ages ago. My bad. He hasn't made that much news. After last year's deep draft, I hope the next draft is deep as well. Yanks desperately need to make at least one more run before the dynasty ends.

Here are baseball's top 10 prospects for the 1981 season

The Reds chances of getting back to the World Series just took a early hit. 37 year old Bill Singer just suffered the first significant injury of his career. A torn ulnar collateral ligament. That comes with a recovery time of 1 year. The future Hall of Famer may never be the same again.

I’m a big of the Brewers right now. I am routing for them based on the roster. I love what they are doing. They are in second place right now, because, they are using the worst pitcher in baseball!! 23 year old David Palmer is 0-7, with a 10.60 era in 8 starts!!

For the love of god, you are getting a career year from Mike Scott. Ed Halicki is pitching over his head and Doyle Alexander has been very good. You can’t keep sending Palmer out there and win this division. He’s the reason you are not in first place right now. MAKE A TRADE!!!

Palmer has been so bad, that in his first start after this writeup, which he actually won, he gave up 7 runs in 7.2 innings, and his era went down!

Expos closer Bob James, just 22 years old was off to one of the best starts ever. In 23 games, James had pitched 23 innings, with a 3-0 record, and 14 saves. He’s given up 6 hits, 3 walks, stuck out 22, and not allowed a run. He was put on the DL with shoulder inflammation, and is probably sidelined for the season. To bad, as I would have loved to see him finish a season like that!


Don Gullett isn’t handling last years postseason debacle to well. After winning 170 games with a era around 3.00 for his career, Gullett has been terrible in the first half of 1981. He’s 2-7, with a career high by more then 2 runs, 5.79 ERA. The Reds seem to have effectively ruined Gullett.

Here are the trades from the second half of the season, or from after the all-star game, leading up to the trade deadline July 31st.

The Brewers, the Cubs and the Dodgers all have nice leads entering September. All could be caught, but it would be surprising if any are. Turns out the Brewers can win with Palmer in their rotation! The AL west though looks like the wild west. Look at this race..

Im cheering for the A’s, based on the fact that the A’s never win anything, ever!!

The A’s fell off, as did the Angels and White Sox. KC, despite floundering in their final 10 games, do enough to win the West with room to spare. The ALCS will feature two first time divison winners!! The NLCS will feature a previous power trying to regain their mojo and a team 3 years removed from a title.

Mike Scott, 25-8 on the season suffers a torn labrum in his final start of the season. Huge blow to the Brewers and their playoff hopes.

David Palmer starts the whole season, making 31 starts, going 8-19 with a 7.60 ERA. This team still won the AL east, and without Mike Scott, he may start PLAYOFF GAMES!!!!!

Don Gullett never really finds his grove, suffering his worst season by far. 7-17, with a 5.01 ERA.

John Elway update: Good year in AAA with Phoenix, but in 33 big league games. He projects right now as a part time player, who probably will start somewhere for a year or two.

I really like this Brewers team, but I don’t know how they got here with the current state of their pitching. Both Mike Scott and Doyle Alexander are out, leaving the remains of an awful rotation. Dean Palmer is horrible. Eduardo Rodriguez is bad, and Ed Halicki is a number 3, masquerading as a number 1 right now. This team does have a ton of speed. Ricky Henderson and Lonnie Smith combined for more steals then the whole Cubs team! Speed plays against any pitching staff, which is a huge advantage for Milwaukee.

The Cubs have great pitching, with Tom Seaver, Catfish Hunter, and Bob Shirley. The Cubs have a massive amount of power, with 5 players recording more than 2 bombs. This powerful offense up against the Brewers staff should be no contest. Injuries make the Cubs heavy favourites, but as we saw last year, anything can, and often happens.

The Palmer Report was really funny. Cubs getting Blomberg is huge. Yanks finished in second! Very close to making it into the playoffs!

Amazingly, yes…AMAZINGLY…David Palmer is the Brewers game 1 starter. Rick Mahler, is a 28 year old who started 28 games with Vancouver in AAA. His 2.77 ERA, plus his 3.69 ERA with the Brewers in 5 starts makes him a better candidate then David Palmer. The Brewers have Mahler in the bullpen though. Tom Makowski, who pitched in 33 games, including 5 starts in the bigs, had a 3.69 ERA in 100 innings. He’s in the bullpen instead of starting for Palmer. I’d even let Mike Scott throw left handed. That would be better than Palmer. 8-19, with a 7.60 era.. WOW. Here's the ball for game 1. OK, rant over. Palmer is the game 1 starter.

David Palmer lasts 5 innings. He allows 6 hits, he walks 9, and gives up 6 runs. Who didn’t see that coming. Cubs starter Tom Seaver hit a 2 run triple off the guy in the 2^nd. Eddie Murray and Andre Dawson both homered off of Seaver, but it wasn’t close to enough. Cubs win game one easily 7-3.

Lonnie Smith leads off game 2 with a homer. It’s weird seeing Rickey Henderson bat 3rd, but Smith has been excellent as the leadoff hitter. Brewers get another run in the second when pitcher Ed Halicki doubles in Ron Jackson. The Cubs take advantage of a Tony Phillips error in the third, which leads to 3 runs, and the lead. Chicago scores 3 more the next inning highlighted by Bobby Marcano’s 2 run homer. The Brewers defense lets them down again in the seventh, as two more errors lead to 2 more runs. Cubs win 8-3, and lead the series 2-0.

Milwaukee gets off to another good start in front of their home crowd. Jack Brohamer and Ken Oberkfell knock in 2 second inning runs to grab the lead. It doesn’t last long. A walk, another error, and 3 singles lead to 3 runs, and the Cubs lead 3-2. The Cubs get an insurance run in the 8^th, and closer Steve Howe does his job in the ninth. 4-2 Chicago, and a chance to sweep.

Starting the do or die game for Milwaukee, none other than David Palmer. What a mismatch in the pitching matchup. Palmer vs Tom Seaver.. It’s tough rooting for the Brewers! Anyway, Mookie Wilson homers to give Milwaukee an early lead, and again, it’s 2-0 Milwaukee. Again, the Cubs respond. Bob Horner homers to tie it, and Palmer walks in the go ahead run for Chicago in the 4^th. The Brewers respond this time. Rickey Henderson delivers a clutch 2 run single in the 5^th. They score 3 more in the seventh. Palmer settles down, pitches 7.1 innings, allowing 4 runs. He gets the win and tells me to shove it at in the post game interview. Brewers stay alive with the 7-4 win. You still suck Palmer.

The Brewers start Larry Christensen in game 5. He started 28 games in AA and imo, a better choice then David Palmer, who actually now has a World Series win in his repertoire. Scoreless through 3, Christensen allows a Bob Horner home run to break the deadlock. The Cubs score again in the fourth, and Christensen implodes in the 5^th. 2 singles, 2 errors, 3 walks and a wild pitch make the score 7-0. The Brewers begin the comeback effort in the 7^th. 4 straight singles, and error, and another single net them 5 runs, and game is close again. Steve Howe comes on to close the game in the ninth, and gets a 1.2.3 inning. The Chicago Cubs are World Champions!!
