Fictional, 12 team Quickstart, 30+ Years of History
Link: MPB.quick
I posted the setup a while ago and some people seemed to want to play it. This is a 12 team fictional setup, arbitrarily in 1980 with modern rules, placed in a fictional north Pacific Commonwealth country called Borealia, which is based off of Aus/Canada/South Africa/NZ. It also has international and indie leagues based in British Columbia, Oceania and Hawaii. Borealia uses a modified Australian nameset, plus Dutch-American, Polish-American, Italian-American and Irish namesets. The setup is designed to funnel good players into the MPB (Major Pacific Baseball, IE the Borealian league) as easily as possible, so I don't recommend playing in the Indie or INT leagues. Borealia drafts out of itself (obvious), plus small numbers from NZ and Aus. International players come from Pacific and South/Central American regions, and from the INT leagues. The MPB has two leagues, Western and Eastern (more like conferences) with inter-league play. Both leagues use the DH rule (gasp!). The first place team in each plays the second place (wildcard) in the first round. Series are best of 9. All levels of minor league are present. Teams (WL) Addington Big market team loaded with aging ex-superstars, many of which are offseason FAs. Expect a rebuild or a retool. Cathays Small market team with many good prospects and a stacked lineup. Had the best regular season record this year but went out in the first round. Three championships in the past decade. Will probably run out of money as soon as its players hit arbitration. Canning Small market team. Both of its "over the hill" stars (Chon and Jackson) will be FAs. Won a three-peat championship decades ago, but hasn't won since. Derry Average market, but a piss-poor garbage team. By far the worst batting in the league. SP Hernandez is practically the only decent player. Blow this team up with dynamite. Lambrecht Rich team, not a lot of historical success. Has a few up-and-coming youngish players (de Bruyn, Puckeridge). New Cardiff Average market team. Made it to the finals this year. Has the best young batting corps in the WL. A terrifying offensive force for years to come. Play this team if you're a wimp or a newbie. Teams (EL) Burney Defending champion, has dominated the EL the past few years. Will probably lose future HOF d'Antonio to FA, but still stacked up and down the lineup. Clevedon Poor team in a rich league. Only team to have never won a championship, and has only made the playoffs once in 30+ years. Narrowly missed the playoffs last two years. Harris Average market, but still poor as heck. Last place team this year. Has a few decent prospects, but the future still looks quite bleak. Owner is a total Scrooge. Martin Bay Above average market. Will lose key players to FA. Just squeaked into the playoffs this year. NB Gulls Rich but lacking in loyal fans due to sharing a market with the NB Crows. Has a few recent championships, but hobbled recently by a top heavy rotation. NB Crows Richest team in the league, but hasn't run away like the real life Yankees did. Managed by a series of idiots. Had a losing record despite the highest budget in baseball. Last edited by Neasag; 01-12-2015 at 11:54 PM. |

Do you happen to have this available for 14 as well? Unfortunately, even though I have 15, I have some technical issues with it that make it almost unplayable.

No, sorry.
The indie and international leagues wouldn't work on 14 anyway, the league set up to take advantage of 15. |

Thanks for this, it is a blast and really well done! I took over Cathays and immediately started the process of shedding payroll while still trying to win now. The history and back stories make this a lot of fun.

Cathays is actually the team I ran, starting in 1968 (and am still running in an "alternate universe").
Personally I dropped Tim Carr in favour of a Cresswell/Richards carching tandem (saved me 700 grand), and dumped Veldman's massive contract since "Zoo" Nan was good enough for 1b. I'd be interested to see if anyone can go anywhere with Clevedon or Harris. Last edited by Neasag; 01-11-2015 at 08:28 PM. |
