personal catchers

It would be nice if we could set an SP to have a specifc personal catcher for games he starts. On that note, it would also be pretty cool if pitchers and catchers can develop chemistry depending on how many years they have played together, games caught, nationality, personality type, etc.

I don't disagree but is there a list of personal catchers available? Other than RA Dickey and Josh Thole I have a little trouble thinking of other current tandems. What is the criteria? Five or ten starts in a season? Does injury change the parameters? One thing we know for sure is that backup catchers are very mobile in MLB so it would be good to know if there are pairs that lasted more than 1.5 seasons.

I would suggest that it's more likely that pitchers have a relationship with a long time starting catcher (Buster Posey) than a backup who has been on 5 teams in 7 seasons. We have to know if the perception matches reality.

How about something on the starter profile page that shows his current preference with your current catchers? Like R.A. Dickey prefers Josh Thole over whomever the other catcher was.

Agreed but other than Dickey is there any data? We don't want made up stuff in the game.

Maybe historical personal catchers as well...I seem to recall one of the Braves "big 3" back in the 90s liked to use one...Smoltz, IIRC. Would be a cool addition, if you could pull it off somehow. A setting where you could set it up manually in the lineups and/or depth charts might be easier to do than having it be automatic.

Give me more than one from 2010-2014. Other than RAD and JT I'm drawing a blank.

I can only think of 5 combos or so in the last 20 years. i used to be a fan of this idea around OOTP 12, I am not anymore.

David Ross went to Chicago to catch with Lester.

I remember Cervelli caught Burnett with the Yanks.

The Braves have actually done it fairly consistently for the last 20 years.
Though I agree that it might be hard to implement without significant amounts of readily available data.

Thanks, I thought the Reds had done it with Hanigan but spaced on Bronson

I seem to recall in a hockey simulation i used to play, players had hidden "click" numbers assigned to them. If 3 forwards formed a line that had identical numbers, they would get a bump in certain ratings. Maybe something similar with pitchers and catchers. Nothing we could see, but something over time we might figure out (or be under a false belief) that their is some hidden magic between the battery mates.

If we're going historical here, there was Steve Carlton and Tim McCarver.

I'm thinking that it's so rare as to be not worth the effort.

That's likely the bottom line. But who hasn't dreamed of having a good reason to keep Bruce Kimm around?
