Is It Possible To Have A Layered Playoff Between Four Teams?

Is this type of custom playoff system possible in OOTP15?

Four-team playoff with third place and fourth place in a three-game series in the opening round... winner would play second place team in best-of-three series... then the winner would play the first place team best-of-three for the league title.

If you go to the customize playoff screen and set it for only 4 teams and 3 rounds, I think you could use the "bye" placeholders to make this work--maybe. I'd play around in the screen and see what happens.

Custom playoff screen doesn't allow it. 4 teams means 2 rounds.

Could this be possible if the playoff matchups are manually edited before each round? I've never done that, but I know that's the solution to the wild card glitch we had previously. Anyone know for sure?

You can do it if you enter it manually.

Do you mean that I manually create the playoff schedule in the schedule editor?

Should I choose a custom playoff and then change it manually... or should I just let the game schedule the playoffs and then manually change the schedule in the schedule editor?

Where is LGO, the schedule expert when you need him.

I think he would know the answer.

The latter. My understanding is that you can only import regular season schedules.

My expertise is that it wont work. All four teams has to play in the first round otherwise it will not progress to the second round.

I tried to change teams after the play-off schedule was created and it would not go to the next round until the team I removed from the play-offs played a game. I think the same thing will happen.

Schedule editor. When I did this in a pro/rel league for cup competitions, I entered them manually. It did the job.

I'll give it a try and see what happens in a test league.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I sent LGO an email... I'm sure he will know the answer.

I know you could do #3 vs. #4 in the first round and give #1 and #2 byes.

I think because #1 is the top seed, it make the next round be #2 vs. #3/#4 by default. With #1 finally getting to take on the winner of that match-up. Not 100% sure though.

There are no buys with 4 teams- 4 8 16 ect has no bye placeholders.

Eugene you might try this
set up for 5 teams to make the playoffs
then play 3 vs 4
give 1 and 2 byes
and then see if you can place another bye in the #5 slot. I don't know if a team will jump to another empty bye. Ie for 8 spots you are trying to use 4 bye postings and not have
SCRAP THAT I JUST TRIED THIS AND IT DIDN'T WORK- so don't try it yourself.
