My first No-No
I've had no hitters happen in my league before but I've never pitched one when playing. Roy Oswalt (San Diego) against Colorado at the Q. He walked 3 and had 7 K's.
Leading 1-0 for most of the game I hadn't really noticed the no no until late in the game. In the fifth Colorado loaded the bases with no outs on a leadoff walk, an error and a plunk. He wiggled himself out of the jam with a couple of pop ups and a K. Around the 7th I began to see he had a decent shot at a no hitter. My team scored 5 in the bottom of the 7th and I started to get a bit nervous. I've gone this deep before with a no hitter but I've come up empty each time. The 8th was a breeze, a couple of harmless grounders and a foul out. The 9th was bit different. Oswalt had thrown nearly 100 pitches going into the 9th and he was nearing his limit (of course I wasn't going to take him out). First batter took his first pitch deep to the gap where I had an outfielder with a D range. I don't know how but he chased it down but he did and made a spectacular catch. Next hitter (Todd Helton) hit a hard grounder up the middle, but my 2nd baseman Brandon Phillips makes a diving grab and threw him out by an inch. Finally Larry Walker. Oswalt was up 1-2 on him. Foul. Foul. Foul....6 or 7 of them. Oswalt's pitch count is over 110 and I'm sure that Walker is going to lace a hit somehow. Next pitch fastball 95 mph over the heart of the plate and Walkers strikes out looking! Crazy. On a side note Colorado must be hating me right now. The game before the no no three of there pitchers were lost for the remainder of the season in the same inning. Two consecutive batters of mine hit shots that hit the pitcher. Both had broken jaws. The next pitcher came in retired one batter then tore a back muscle. Has anyone ever played a game where a perfect game was tossed? |

This seems to be a habit of the Padres. They hit Curt Schilling twice in the hand in real life, and hit Matt Morris in the hand last night. My boys don't win much but they sure do some damage.

I just had a first. I sim and saw that the Twins and Tigers went 21 innings. The Tigers won 2-1. Kingsman struck out in all at bats..6 times. I have never seen somebody strike out 6 times.

I had a guy of mine pitch a perfect game fairly recently.
It was in his rookie season, and he went on to be named ROY. Then the game got completely screwed while advancing to the next season, and I had to go back to my last backup, which was before the perfect game. He did win the ROY again, but the perfect game was lost. Since then, the poor sod's pitched three one-hitters, (Yeah, he's a dominant hurler) but hasn't managed to duplicate his previous feat. The most recent one came in the 7th game of the NLCS... he took a perfect game through seven and a third, before a ground ball got thrown away by the second baseman, which the game always scores as a hit with a throwing error allowing the batter to reach second. Damn that second baseman. -Spielman

ha ha, yeah I hate that.
A side note to Oswalt. He pitched two more complete game shutouts to follow (on less than 100 pitches). Before that he had 11 1/3 scoreless innings. It brought his total 38 1/3 scoreless innnings. First pitch of his next start was blast to deep center. Colorado. They got their revenge. Also Oswalt did this split between two months, neither of which he was pitcher of the month. Can you believe that? |

So far in my solo historical league (Flashback Baseball League) from 1903-1922 (end of April) Ive had 25 no-hitters, but no perfect games yet. 9 pitchers pitched no-hitters but gave up 1 walk. Ive had many many many 1-hitters.
I sim a week at at a time though so I didn't actually see any of these, except when Hippo Vaughn pitched a no-hitter BUT LOST, for the NY Yankees (which I run. Financials off, fantasy & ammy draft), in Game 3 of the 1909 Flashback League World Series. Slim Sallee (not to be confused with the younger Slim Shady) of the Chicago Cubs pitched a 1-hitter in that game, New York committed 3 errors, and Vaughn walked 5 to lead to the 1-0 loss for NY ! Maybe off the beaten path a bit, but I had Jesse Foppert throw 2 no hitters within 2 weeks, and has thrown 6 in a manager mode league that started in 2003 and is currently in 2012... None by my staff though

I have a league where I only play the games for my ace pitcher, Harold "Blackjack" Graham. I have had a two one-hitters for him, one even went to two out in the 9th. Then wouldn't you know it, I was pressed for time one day and simmed one if his starts and you can can probably fill in the rest. In 2-plus years I've simmed his games twice, and one was the no-no.

I have played like everygame in probably 10 season and myself have never had a no-hitter. I have had no-hitters on my team when I sim them, and also have been no-hit, but I have never myself pitched one in a game.
