large AI trades

I've been simming and watching a fictional ML setup, and have seen a few 3-for-3 player trades, almost always exclusively involving minor leaguers (or one AAA+ guy involved). The bulk of the trades seem to be one ML and one minor leaguer for a decent ML player.

I don't think I've ever seen a 5-for-1 AI trade before but two teams just pulled one off, with the 1 being the top pitching prospect in the game (still at A level though) and the 5 being minor leaguers of various skill and development.

Just got me wondering about large AI trades you may have seen in your games.

The Giants once sent Barry Bonds for 5 borderline AAA-AA-A guys, and I immediately switched trading to "very low" for every league going forward. Honestly, the larger the trade, the less I think it's doing realistic stuff vs doing "how many players equals this player?" in the calculations.

That's really all it does, though. The AI does not know player names. It only knows the team's needs, its roster strategy, and the calculated values of the players. If it does the math and determines that a move provides a total value that exceeds the loss of a given player, it will make the trade. And your trade frequency setting will not prevent this. The way to address it is to adjust the setting for favoring veterans vs. prospects and having a look at team roster strategies.

But for those of us who don't want to tinker overly much, that change reduces the number of trades, which has the effect of reducing the likelihood of a dump with a single click instead of examining 20-30 team strategies, which is tedious.

No, the solution is even easier. Simply change the overall AI trade setting to favor veterans over prospects. That's a global setting that affects all AI teams at once, so there is no need to adjust individual team strategies. And you avoid the unrealistic effects of lowering trade frequency.

I've seen a fair few 4 or 5 for 1 trades in my dynasty league, always involving minor leaguers for 1 star player.

I've yet to see a 3 for 3 trade, though i've seen a few 2 for 2. The 2 for 2 trades have been 1 ML-caliber player from each team, with the other player being either prospect or depth. Don't think i've seen a 2-2 with all the players being major leaguers.

Recently i've been seeing a few more trades involving cash, which is nice.

I see a lot of 5-1, 4-1 trades but they involve an established star for top prospects and fill in minor leaguers. (Some of those throwaway minor leaguers actually became something and made the trade a success)

I have trade setting to heavily favor prospects.
