Bunt for hit frequency?

I have a speedy player with a very high "bunt for hit" rating. I've maxed his frequency to attempt them, and overridden team settings for his strategy. He rarely attempts them though. I've seen him attempt a bunt 2 times and he missed, but that is in half a season.

Are there only certain circumstances when it would be attempted? (no out, first batter of inning, nobody on base, etc).

Tell us more about the player.

Out of 20: Contact 9, Gap 13, Pow 12, Eye 10, AvoidKs 7.
Speed 15, Bunt for Hit 16, Baserunning Instinct 20, stealing 20, Normal Intelligence

A pretty average (or a touch below) player who strikes out a lot. Has high power potential (16).

To bunt you need to make contact and not strike out. He's not a good candidate IMO if you mostly sim. Better but still not great if you play out games.

Thanks for the response. I didn't really know where Bunt came to play in an at bat. I just assumed it was a stand alone rating that would be employed during the occasional bunt attempt. I guess I will leave it maxed out and see if he ever attempts one.

Educated guess on my part. So I may be wrong. I'd find it hard to square the logic of a bunt rating being independent of contact. A poor avoid K rating means your outs are often K's so the combination doesn't leave any room for many bunt hits.

IRL Anthony Gose is an example. If he could bunt he could hit 0.320+ but he cannot make contact and does strikeout often.

Don't hit and run with him either... Contact plays a big role in that ability as well.
