1902 Playoffs

If my team is not involved in the playoffs, i will just give a simple playoff report.
Congrats to the Boston Beaneaters who defeated the team i won with last year, the Philadelphia Athletics.
They are the 1902 World Series Champions!!

1902 Draft

Not really a strong draft in 1902 and i didnt pick until number 11.
There was some decent pitching available but i felt that pitching wasnt my problem.
So i concentrated on batters in this draft and grabbed Rabbit Robinson and Jack Dunleavy.
Im thinking my pitching will do well again but i needed to have some more pop in the bat.

1903 Pre Season

There were some changes to the MLB structure for 1903.
The Cleveland Broncos name only lasted 1 year.
The owner of the team felt that all his players were always sleeping on the job, since they couldnt win a damn thing.
So, he decided to rename them as the Cleveland Naps.
The Baltimore Orioles felt that the state of Maryland didnt like them very much.
But the owner didnt say anything about it and decided to take the HIGH road.
They moved to New York and settled in the Bronx.
The owner said, "We are now in the Highlands! A nice fresh start!"
So was the beginning of the New York Highlanders.
The Chicago Orphans are no longer orphans.
The Windy City decided to adopt them and keep them in the north side of Chicago and are now the Chicago Cubs.

The PP have us ending up in 7th place in the NL.
Im not worried.

So i have my team for the year and are ready to play.
So let me introduce to you...

THE 1903 NEW YORK GIANTS!!!

Year 2 of 5

April 1903

A bit of a slow start out of the gate.
We go 5-8 for April and my lineup is just not getting hits at this early stage.
The rotation is solid and the bullpen is about average.
We just make too many errors in the field as we are dead last in defense.

May 1903

You can never have too much bullpen.
I decided to claim Bill Carrick off of waivers.
With the way this season is going, it couldnt hurt.
A 7-20 month of May basically tells me that this is going to be a long year.
So, i will just develop my hitting and pitching for the rest of the season and hopefully we will find some silver linings in these dark clouds.

June 1903

This was a better month as we went 12-14 for June.
My pitching is just bad this year.
Sam Leever is doing his job, but the other guys arent.
And my lineup just cant seem to get over the hump.
Tom McCreery asked to be traded and i said to him that things will get better in time.
Just settle down.
But as i said, we improved this month, so maybe we can continue this upward trend?

July 1903

July went by pretty quick as we went 11-15 for the month.
Interesting stat i see in my info box though.
We havent won a single extra inning game.
Very interesting.
Ed Doheny went out with a short injury, so i let Jay Hughes into the starting rotation for a while.
I know we will get better, but might have to wait for 1904.

August 1903

Going .500 for August was a fine accomplishment for a baseball team that really doesnt have it this year.
The good news is...we have one month to left to play.
The bad news is...we have one month to left to play.
On to September...

September 1903

The 1903 regular season has mercifully come to an end.
Not much to say.
My hitting was bad, my pitching was bad and my fielding was bad.
So what does that all add up to?
We were BAD!
Well...the 1903 draft is next up after the playoffs.
2 years down...3 left!

1903 Playoffs

I guess moving to New York was a good thing.
Congratulations to the New York Highlanders!
1903 World Series Champions!!

2nd time the Brooklyn Superbas made it to the world series...and the 2nd time they lost in 7 games.
The first time was to my Philadelphia Athletics in 1901.

1903 Off Season

My Giants didnt win any awards for 1903 and i am not surprised.
We were pretty bad!
I got the first draft choice in the 1903 draft and i selected Miller Huggins for 2B and Emil Batch for 3B.
Both positions needed a lot of help so i felt it couldnt hurt to get those two sluggers.
MR Walter Clarkson, RF Harry McChesney and CF Orth Collins, rounded out the top 5.

I did make one trade during the offseason.
The St. Louis Cardinals offered me RF Fielder Jones for Tom McCreery and McChesney.
I pulled the trigger on it.
Jones gives me a good player in the outfield, and with only 3 years or less left for me in New York until i move on, i really wont see McChesney develop and McCreery was beginning to get on my nerves.

I was very sad to see this happen.
Watty Lee helped me win my first championship with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901.
They said his career MAY be over, but i will not retire him until i know for sure.

1904 Pre Season

The PP has us picked for 7th in the NL this year.
I think this team is better than that.
Sam Mertes and Mike Grady are both going to slug it out i think, and Red Donahue is going to have a bounce back year.
There is a lot of talent in the National League...but maybe we can keep it close.

So...everyone...say hello to....

THE 1904 NEW YORK GIANTS!!!

Another April...and another slow start out of the gate.
5-10!!!
I wonder why this team, which has talent, likes to underachieve.
But im not giving up.
New season and new chances to try to make up some early ground.

May wasnt a bad month going 12-15.
Even though Otto Hess is 2-9 this season, he sports a 2.32 ERA.
Lots of room for him to get even better.
Emil Batch is turning out to be a decent hitter right now as he is batting a nice cool .301 AVG.

Nice to know sometimes that one of my guys can get a small award and Sam Mertes deserved his.
June Batter of the Month...Ill take it.
Meanwhile, still cant get over the hill as we went 11-14 for the month of June and are now standing 11 games under .500 and 9.5 games back of 3rd place.
Still some time left to turn this thing around.
I really wish i knew why that with all this talent, we still cant put anything together.
Is it because the NL is so much better than the AL?

July 1904

Decided to stand pat on my team at the trade deadline.
Didnt want to give up any young stars and trading for old stars didnt make sense since this team is not going anywhere this season.
July we went 11-16.
The 1904 season is pretty much in the toilet, so all i can do now is to continue to develop my young hitters and pitchers for the last two seasons i have left before being forced to move on to my next team.
Dont get me wrong, people im not giving up.
I just want to get to the playoffs with these guys.
They are young and fresh and full of potential.
They just havent reached it yet...

Dynasty Rule Change!!
For every year i do make the playoffs with the team im managing, but do not win the world series, i get an extra year with the team.
So if i dont make the playoffs with the Giants within five years, i am out.
But if i do make the playoffs at any point with the team im managing, i get an extra year.
But it is sudden death after five years.
So i am guaranteed at least five years with the current ball club.
Ex. I dont make the playoffs with the Giants in 5 years, i must change teams.
I make the playoffs during the first 5 years, i get an extra year with that team for each year i make the playoffs.
But after 5 years or the extra years i received for making the playoffs...the next year i dont make the playoffs...i must change teams.
Remember fellow dynasty fans, if i win the championship with the current team, i am done with that team for the dynasty.
If i dont win the title, i can return to that team after managing the next team if you guys choose that team again.
Thanks for reading my dynasty guys.
Hope you are all enjoying it as i am enjoying doing it.

A couple of nice awards to give out.
Mike Grady gets a Batter of the Month award and Miller Huggins picks up his first Rookie of the Month award.
Nice to see some players on my team go out there and do something.
As i said before, there is talent on this team.
