Paul - How about a good wil patch that corrects cuts

Paul - While waiting for latest version of long awaited TB.

What about putting together a quick patch that simply reduces the % of fights stopped on cuts. It happens much too often on live simmed out fights. A simple 15-20% across the board temporary fix would be fantastic (to this long time customer). |

We have discussed this in regards to the new game and it has been recommended as something needed for this version before the port.

Either reducing the severity that cuts increase, or as you say decreasing the likelihood of a stoppage. So hoping this happens as there will be at least one more patch for this version. |

A one issue patch was put out few years back on request by me...(regarding fighters not automatically going into "cover up" mode when hurt....during actually watched fights) You had to hit a yes/no prompt and the fight would halt until clicked.

As a person who likes to sim out live all his fights (but can't always be there to hit a yes/no option while rounds are going on). It was nice feature / patch to just have automatically cover up mode kick in (as is the case with fast simmed fights). Would love to see a quick (albeit not perfect) address to the current cuts issues. That issue being fights getting stopped too often. A slight to moderate reduction would be great! And yes, virtually only cuts above eyes should cause a stoppage. |

We've been asking for a patch to fix this issue for many years now. I have made almost every fighters resistance to cuts a 1 rating and made all the early stoppage refs to normal and this hasn't reduced the amount of cut stoppages.

I'm not holding my breath but a patch would be nice before the next version (although the next version is like the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, it's talked about, but it's all a big tease) Last edited by Mugsy; 11-30-2014 at 10:30 PM. |

I'm just wanting a patch to fix the issue I have with careers being changed whenever I load the game to "Prime" which is linked with fighters randomly changing weight classes.

Baseball season's over so they probably have him working on the next version of OOTP, then will come the patches and whatever. He has a tiny window of about a week and a half where he can work on TBCB but I think he has to sleep and consume sufficient quantities of food to keep him going during next baseball season....

Aaaaaaand the conspiracies are back, despite TBCB having essentially no association with OOTP anymore (it isn't even listed on their main page anymore). Oh well, whatever makes people happy before the next TBCB comes out...

No association between games, but Paul has said he works on OOTP. Otherwise he'd be finished by now.

Are we talking about TBCB 2.5 or TBCB 2013? Does anyone still play TBCB 2013?

I lost my first TBCB 2013 license when our laptop died. Then lost my second when our old desktop computer died. I have not bothered to ask for the license to be resent. The game has so many problems, it just seemed pointless. I have been continuing with my TBCB 2.5 universe.

I still play 2.5 every day. I did pay for and tried the new version several times but way to many issues. I will continue to support the game any way possible, looking for the next update / revision.

Thanks for pointing this out! I've been away from the forum for quite some time, but I do have a question. If there is indeed no nexus between OOTP and the current incarnation of TBCB, I'm wondering why this forum is permitted to continue to operate under the OOTP tent. Is it because TBCB 2.5 is preferred over the 2013 version? Or have we acquired some degree of "squatter's rights" after all these years of dwelling in the forum basement? |

What's frustrating is that Paul has not responded at all to this post to give us any update on the patch. If he's not working on it, I'd like to know that as well.

				Looking Down the Road

Like many of you here, I've followed and played what is now known as TBCB since it was released under the Jim Barnes Statis-Pro umbrella and subsequently on to Truco, AH, APBA, Lance Haffner, Comp-U-Serve, OOTP, and now Paul's version.

The game's docked at more ports over the past four decades than did Odysseus on his way home to the waiting arms of Penelope...which has always given me some degree of concern. While TBCB has certainly been resilient, it has equally been rather nomadic. Call me a cynic, but given the game's rootless history, what happens when it becomes "post-Paul"? Will someone pick it up, or will it be consigned to the "dustbin of history"? As Cap and others have posted, OOTP has walked away from the game. My general impression, and it's just an impression, there's not much satisfaction with the 2013 version. I think that Antonin's comments above along with Mugsy's reference to a lack of responsiveness by Paul doesn't bode well. About a decade ago, an independent game designer produced an excellent hockey PC game called "Quest". After several years, he just couldn't devote the time to revise and upgrade. Rather than just let the game fall by the wayside, he did the noble thing...he made it freeware. If Paul's version doesn't ultimately get off the ground and OOTP has closed the door on the game, should not OOTP do the right thing by making TBCB 2.5 freeware? Once again, TBCB's history has pretty much made it somewhat of an orphan in the storm. Sadly boxing has become a niche sport, and while there's hardcore support for TBCB, its passage through so many hands over nearly forty years strongly suggests that no one can make a $ selling it. Like the guy who created the Quest hockey game, OOTP should do the noble thing by making TBCB 2.5 freeware. Just remember, we're all one hard drive crash away from the game becoming nothing more than a fond memory.

Good to see you back Professor! I'm very concerned as well and the past couple of years been having bad luck with hard drives dying on me. I'm down to my last straw as well considering the license. If 2.5 was made Freeware I think that would be not only great but also exciting to see the improvements and tweaks the gamers can do to make it even better!

OOTP cannot make 2.5 available as freeware because Paul purchased the rights to it only recently.

And Paul cannot make it freeware if he intends to maintain a unique product.

I didn't say this lightly without any thought. We folks have kept this game alive. One of the "attractions" in the advertising is that there are 6000+ fighters rated.

Well who did most of those ratings...we did! The fans of TBCB. I've been playing this game for four decades, and if the current version doesn't fly, my thought is why should we be left out in the cold? Once upon a time, you'd order a game and received a disc. If your hard drive crashed you just reloaded the game, and you went along on your way with a smile on your face You bought the game...put down the $$ and it was yours. Somewhere along the path, game producers got paranoid and thought we engaged in some element of "piracy". Thus, the hateful license! Personally, I've always taken affront to this. It suggests that gamers like us lack some element of morality. I've been sports gaming for more than fifty years. In all those years, I've never had another gamer ask me to send him/her a copy of a game. With the exception of APBA baseball, which still sends you an uncompromised disc, you now need a "license" to play a game that you paid to play. In the end, you don't actually own the game...all you did was secure a rather tentative license to play it. Generally, if your hard drive crashes, you have two bites at the apple before you have to pony up some more $$ to play the game again. This particularly disturbs me in light of what we've all contributed to TBCB. The game would not be the game without us. Were it not for us, it would have been little more than twenty heavyweights that were included in the original Jim Barnes "Statis-Pro" game four decades ago. Send us a disc without a license or make it freeware!

Furthermore, neither you nor I have any inkling about the deal Paul cut with OOTP. This strikes me as a minor step above a kabuki dance. Paul needs to come clean with his intentions and relationship with OOTP. Finally, concerning your contention that Paul "intends to maintain a unique product"...just scan the posts. From what Cap and others have posted, Paul still pulls a paycheck from OOTP. Where's Paul????? This entire thread started with a legitimate question by Meade concerning cuts...that was three weeks ago!!! And Paul has yet to respond! Problematic here is your statement, "And Paul cannot make it freeware if he intends to maintain a unique product." What exactly are "Paul's intentions"???? I've invested a lot of blood, sweat, and tears with what is now known as TBCB. The larger issue is that many seem to have problems with "2013". Personally, I was perfectly content with 2.5 but jumped on the bandwagon with those who sought a revision insofar as they wanted the game to give them more. Did they get it??? Ultimately, if Paul's version falls flat...where does that leave us??? As I entitled my post, "Looking Down the Road", my fundamental question concerns what's left if Paul folds his tent. Should that happen, we supporters of TBCB should not be cast into the dark. In light of what we partisans of TBCB have contributed all these years, minimally, I think that we'd be entitled to freeware for 2.5
