What if season....

Have you ever wondered if you're real life team if they would've just made that one move or kept that one player things would've been different that season? I never play historical or real leagues but I did this one time. Me and 11 other guys that are in my fantasy baseball league are all in Groupme and we were talking about the 1990s especially the early 90s and I brought up the Padres within a few seasons from each other they had and got rid of Roberto Alomar, Benito Santiago, Tony Fernadez, Joe Carter, Fred McGrif, Garry Sheffield. And Bip Roberts came in a year or two after '92. So I wonder what if the Padres would've signed all of these players for long-term comp contracts what would happen.
I had Tony Gwynn in RF, Bip Roberts in CF, Joe Carter in LF, Garry Sheffield in 3B, Tony Fernadez in SS, Roberto Alomar in 2B, Fred McGrif in 1B and Benito Santiago at C. Kept the same pitching staff and most of the same bench. In real life the Padres with 82 games in in 1992. In my game they won 97 win the NL West and won the NL pennant but lost the world series in 6 games to the Twins. But still fun season.

Don't know if you guys ever try to alter history

I am sure it is done plenty. Just don't mess with the 1998 World Series!

The "what if" I always like to play out whenever I try a historical league is taking over the Pirates is 1992. Instead of playing what if they had been able to keep a player though, I play what if they traded Bonds for a package of players instead of letting him walk as a free agent after the season.

I have not done this is a couple of years. I might try it again.

Alright, another Pirates fan! The only historical I have done was '92 also. But I always resign Bonds. I will also loosen up the pockets of the Pirates owner sometimes.

I'm a Red Sox fan. So, yes, I have dabbled in some "what if" historical scenarios a time or two.

Actually, there were two times that I had played the "What if" mode :

Forced Frazee, with cash, to pursue his Nanette's dream, in order to keep the Babe with the Red Sox ...

And

To watch how Shoeless Joe finished his career, into the HOF ...

You know, I never tried that. I have started in 91 before and kept Bonilla once, but I always trade Bonds. I did fire up a new 1992 season last night. I am trying to work out a trade with every team (hard / neutral) then I will take the one I like best. I am about halfway through the teams and the one I am leaning towards is Bonds to the Mets for Cone, Magadan, and Schourek.

The Buccos '92 challenge is to take over the team during their last winning season preceding the 20 year losing streak and attempt to avoid it. Otherwise, 1992 was good year. It was actually a very good year, until the very end that is. Hopefully PotatoPeeler does not notice this thread, as he rarely misses the opportunity to torment me over it.

*grumble grumble* Francisco frickin' Cabrera *grumble grumble*

I remember that series between them and the Braves. It was a good year.
