Coach and Player Size Updates

Hey OOTP staff, just made a thread like this in the OOTP 15 section and was told I should post it here. How about occasional updates for when personnel ratings and player size changes like we get player rating updates. You could just make one big development update or something, and include the size like you would the mph on pitchers. Just a suggestion! Keep on doing you

Player height and weight don't affect the players ratings (with a couple exceptions see below). Plus from what I've seen while they do change it's never very major a few pounds here or there and I can honestly say I've never seen a players height change once they've hit the majors. Never paid enough attention to it with my feeders but (I just looked at my current seasons Feeders and ML league) considering the average height of my HS feeder league is nearly exactly the same height, less than two inch difference, of my ML league I'm guessing it doesn't change or doesn't change very much at all.

Player weight does affect ratings when tied with a story line about training. You'll get a email about X player not working out in the off season and coming to spring training out of shape and it will affect his ratings. There are also ones were the player works out a lot in the off season and comes to spring training in great shape and you'll see his weight down a bit and it usually coincides with a ratings boost.

As for coaches their ratings do get better as they coach more. From what I've seen each level of minors will only boost your coach to a certain point and then he's basically capped at that level. Moving him up the next level of minors and giving him a few seasons will boost his ratings more. I have several managers on my ML team who came up through the ranks. One even started out in the rookie league. I've also seen that managers seem to have ceilings too so not everyone will get better some are just destined to be A ball managers and nothing else.

Working out does not always result in weight loss. In fact many modern fitness regimens result in increased muscle mass and reduced body fat. The results are generally weight neutral or gain unless the player was obese previously. I'm sure I read that OOTP uses BMI internally to generate player height weight figures upon creation. That can be problematic as BMI does not apply to athletes who have high muscle mass for a given height.

Based on that, it's pretty unrealistic to tie ratings boosts only to weight loss. I hope that gets fixed in v16.

It isn't. Maybe the storylines are, but the game engine actually takes height and weight into account for a few things regarding ratings boosts and decreases, primarily fielding ratings.

It isn't only weight loss. I was just using one example. If I went through all dozen plus story line related weight/ratings/training messages my post would be three pages long.
