![]() Bert Blyleven, outduels Reds ace Bill Singer in game 1. It’s Singer's 2nd WS loss in 10 starts. Jose Cruz stole 2 bases, and scored the winning run. Ken Singleton hit the games only home run. Reds pitchers again dominate the Chicago hitters. Mike Torrez walks 6, but gets away with it because he only allowed 3 hits and 1 run. Johnny Callison gets the Reds started with a first inning home run, and knocks 3 hits on the day. Reds win easily 6-1.Reds starter Charlie Hudson was dominant. The 22 year old throws almost 8 innings, allowing 2 base runners, before being replaced by Danny Frisella, the owner of 107 saves over the last 3 seasons, with a 1-0 lead. Frisella can’t finish the game though. Jose Cruz doubles and scores the tying run in the ninth, forcing extra innings. The Reds Mike Fiore is the hero, knocking in the winning run with 2 out in the bottom of the 10th. Reds survive to tie the series with a 2-1 win. The Reds start Bill Singer on 3 days rest, while the White Sox rest Blyleven for game 5. Singer is dominant. He allows 4 hits over 7 innings, shutting the White Sox out. Johnny Callison knocked in the winning run in the 8th, making the consolation run Chicago scored in the ninth not matter. 3-1 Reds win puts them on the brink. Bert Blyleven pitches great. He allows 1 run over 7.2 innings, striking out 9. He leaves the game with a 3-1 lead. White Sox closer Dave Tomlin comes in for the save…. ![]() White Sox closer Dave Tomlin blows it massively. He'll is probably never close again after this disaster. It’s Tomlin’s 3rd blown save of the playoffs, and 2nd World Series loss. The Cincinnati Reds win another World Series!! ![]() ![]() |

1971-72 Offseason News and Notes
Gary Carter is San Diego’s first pick, and it’s a smart pick. He’s a leader. I really like the Padres future, if they don’t screw it up. They are building something over there. ![]() ![]() No Hall of Fame inductions this year again. Entrance into the hall remains difficult, and will only be for the elite of the elite. Real life 1971 MVP's Joe Torre and Vida Blue have not been able to quite duplicate their success in my world. Both are good players though. I doubt either will get to their real life ceilings. ![]() It's now 1972, here is a small look at the leagues financials. With free agency coming in the near future, these numbers will potentially explode soon. The top 10 salaries in baseball ![]() And here are all the payrolls during the 1971 season ![]() ![]() |

Twins, Yanks, Mets and Pirates get huge steals in the first round. Really like the direction the Yanks are going in.
- Is Tom Patton almost done? Thanks for posting the payrolls! Love the new uniforms as well. |

Patton is still around, at age 36. His contact rating is now down to 7, but he's still got power, still got a good eye. He should have a productive year this year. Last season, he got injured, but still produced a 2.2 WAR

1972 MLB Regular Season
OSA's Top 10 Prospects ![]() It took 2 weeks, but Harmon Killebrew hit his 700th home run on April 18th, 1972. Killebrew is obviously the first person to reach 700. He’s 35. I am having a hard time seeing how he won’t get to 755 by mid 1973. Killebrew is amazing!!! ![]() The Home Run King It’s now June 10th, and I think the AL races are already over!! Baltimore, at 42-15, have a 10 game lead on the Yankees. The White Sox, 38-16, lead the Twins by 12 games. It’s not impossible, but it’s pretty damn hard to blow those leads. For the 1st time, expansion teams are challenging for the postseason in the senior circuit. The Mets and the Astros are both leading their divisions! Now there is a lot of time left. The Phillies and Reds, perennial champions are both in hot pursuit, but for fans of new blood, this is a wonderful development!! Cleveland trades my former man crush and break out star Andy Kosco! ![]() The Reds are going to do whatever they can to defend their title, and they are adding a legitimate star to their lineup. Kosco is having a very good season. He's on pace for 30 plus home runs. At 30, he's got alot of good baseball left. Very nice move. ![]() Ouch, Reggie Jackson’s season has ended. He broke a bone in his elbow. The Braves hope he can be back for spring training, but that's not a guarantee. Reggie hit 40 homers in 100 games this year. That pace would give him a shot at Gehrig’s record of 65, but obviously, that will have to wait. Reggie is without a doubt, my favourite player in this dynasty so far. ![]() Reggie Jackson Orlando Cepeda becomes the 7th person to hit 500 home runs. The 34 year old has slowed down in recent years. He won’t get to 600, but he will go down in history as one of the elite power hitters in baseball. Looking at the list, Mantle, Mathews and Aaron will probably all fall short, so Sadaharu Oh should be the next member of the 500 club. ETA….late 1974. ![]() Ok, I was wrong. Baltimore has blown their massive AL east lead and trail the Red Sox by half a game on September 1st. The Sox have put together two double digit win streaks and are trending upwards! The White Sox have basically clinched the AL west with their 24 game lead. The Phillies, Mets and Cubs are in a dog fight for the NL east. 2 games separate them, and the Dodgers, Reds, Braves and Astros are all in contention in the AL West. Without Reggie Jackson, i expect the Braves to drop out, and it's probably a good bet for the inexperienced Astros to falter. Baltimore opens the month with 11 straight wins, including a sweep of Boston. They come back after blowing their lead and easily win the AL East… The Mets go 8-1 against Chicago and Philadelphia during September, distancing themselves and cruise to their first ever division crown! Separated by 1 game, the Reds hosted the Dodgers in a 3 game series the final week of the season. No real suspense here though. The Reds dominated, destroying the Dodgers and any hope they had at returning to the playoffs. ![]() ![]() ![]() Charlie Vinson wins the triple crown!!! |

![]() The Mets are making history. They are the first expansion team to win a division, make the playoffs, and win a playoff series. They are also the first New York team to play in a World Series in 15 years. The middle of the Mets lineup should be troublesome for Baltimore. They drive the Met’s offense. Baltimore’s starters are the best in baseball right now. Jerry Reuss dominated, and Fergie Jenkins is better than his numbers suggest. I like the Orioles, but the Mets have some upset in them! |

Just the 3 levels of minors right now. Its possible that i will add a rookie league, but I'd want it to be realistic, which means some prep to real find teams, affiliations, logos, jerseys's etc.....and i have not started any prep, so it isn't on the horizon. |

![]() Tom Seaver outduels the probably AL Rube Waddell award winner Jerry Reuss, leading the Mets to an opening game, 5-2 victory. Sal Bando is the offensive hero, with a base loaded triple in the fifth. Trailing 2-1 in the sixth, the Orioles had to start feeling desperate. Larry Hisle came through, hitting a go ahead, 2 run home run, to give them a lead they would not relinquish. Both teams added another run. Baltimore wins game two, 4-3. The Mets take advantage of a shaky Ray Washburn in the opening frame. The Orioles starter walked 2, gave up a infield single, and threw a wild pitch. The Mets score first without hitting the ball hard. Baltimore scores a run in each the 2nd and 3rd innings thanks to errors by Dick Sharon and John Boccabella, and the Orioles lead by 1. Vic Harris hits a 2 out double in the next frame, that scores Boccabella and Sal Bando to retake the lead for NY. The pitchers then shut it down the rest of the way. Mets hold on to win game three, 3-2. The Orioles jump out to 4-0 lead early off of ace Tom Seaver, all by the way of the single. Nine singles in the first 3 innings is enough to do the damage. The Mets are only able to scrape 1 run together, and Jerry Reuss gets the win. Orioles tie the series with the 4-1 win. A two out error leads to Baltimore opening the scoring in the fifth inning. Rick Monday doubles home Larry Hisle to make Mets fans very nervous. The score stays that way until Johnny Bench ties it in the 7th, blasting a solo shot, his first of the series to tie the game. With two outs in the bottom eighth, back up catcher, and pinch hitter, Tim Hosley sends fans in Shea Stadium crazy, hitting a very unlikely go ahead home run, to give the Mets the eventual 2-1 win! NY was held to 3 hits on the day. 2 of them happened to leave the stadium. ![]() Hosley has 3 career home runs in regular season play The Orioles again use small ball to jump out to a lead. They score 4 runs on 7 hits and lead 4-0 after 3 innings. The Mets Oscar Gamble hits a 2 run shot to make it closer, but facing elimination, the Orioles were not gonna blow this lead. Baltimore forces a game 7 with the 5-3 win. Game 7 ![]() It’s a battle of the aces. Tom Seaver vs. Jerry Reuss. Each pitcher has a win over the other in this series! Baltimore strikes first. Mike Epstein hits a 2nd inning solo shot to give the Orioles an 1-0 lead. In the next frame Tom Seaver helps himself out, executing a sac bunt to perfection, advancing Don Young. Vic Harris knocks him in to tie the game at 1. Seaver and Reuss go into cruise control. No baserunners in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings. In the top of the 7th, the Mets draw 2 walks and a infield single from Sal Brando. With two outs, coming to the plate is Tom Seaver!! What do you do here. Pinch hit with such a opportunity, and take out one of the top 5 pitchers alive?! Leave Seaver in, knowing no other pitcher gives you a better chance?! Here’s a look at the whole inning to see what Mets manager Harley Boss did…. ![]() Jimmy Stewart, replacing regular 3rd baseman Rico Petrocelli, boots the ground ball that gets the Orioles out of the inning. Then, Tim Hosley cements himself in Mets history. GRAND SLAM!!! 2nd straight pinch hit home run for Hosley. This is how LEGENDS are created! Its Hosley's third pinch hit home run of the series! A few more runs are scored, but this thing is over. The NY Mets have won the World Series!!! ![]() ![]() |
