Career journeyman wants no minor league deal?

Please someone explain to my why this gentleman, who has exactly 0 major league experience, will not take a minor league FA deal with my organization?

"A minor league deal is for minor league players". Dude, you ARE a minor league player.

He doesn't want to play in the minors any more. Maybe he's delusional about his talent, but his attitude isn't irrational.

It's also only August 23rd.

Not sure what the vital dates are in your league, but he might be more willing to take a minor league deal once February 2026 rolls around and he's still sitting at home dreaming of the Show.

Did he play well last year, whatever level he was at?

In 61 games at AAA last year, he hit .327/.378/.563 for an OPS+ of 138 and a WAR of 2.4. Impressive, but it's AAA.

I'd call him up in September to see what he could do. but no way I'm going to cut him a check for $1.2m before he's ever seen a big league pitcher. I wish there was a way to say that

You can say it by not offering him a deal, check back in a month or two and if no one has signed him see if his attitude has changed

A critical GM skill in OOTP is not to jump too quickly, especially early in the FA season. I know this isn't the same but as already said, the player will modify his demands to fit the market.

Most of you seem to be missing that they are already midseason, many career minor leaguers demand big league contracts at the start of FA, but by the time the season starts are willing to sign to the minors.

Perhaps he wanted more at fa start then curved down to what he wants now since they are in mid season

Wait til next February, lol. Or, does OOTP prorate contracts? 1.1m for 35 days is what, 210k?

Just look at Randy Wolf who wanted more money during the season from the M's and see how that turned out.
